Bose Stereo question
Okay, so I put an MP3 disk in today and ..... Nothing.
Now I have the 6 disc Bose stereo, the car is an 09 RX-8 R3.
I was told when I bought it that it would play MP3's. Looking at the unit ALL of the MP3 controls are there as well (folder, text, etc). BUT there is no 'MP3' tag on the actual cd unit (which looking through the manual says needs to be there).
Do some of the Bose units play MP3s? I called the dealer and bitched at them, I have a lot of music (30gigs worth of CD's just to start) and yes, that was a factor in buying the car. Is there another Bose unit that will play MP3s?
And WTF is that media button for? Can't find it in the owners manual and pressing it doesn't do anything.

You need a specific MP3 player CD drive to play MP3s. The Bose system will not play those without such a drive. It's an extra you'll have to buy and replace the CD drive currently in the head unit assembly.
The media button switches to an external source if I'm not mistaken. It would turn on a CD changer connected to the socket on the rear of the radio, or a PhatNoise (or whatever) system and similar. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

Is this something easily done? Because I'm thinking of forcing the dealer to do it. They told me the damn thing played MP3's.
Have to see if that media button works when there is a source on the input in the arm rest. Someone said in another forum that if you have the Sirius unit it won't work, I don't use Sirius (could care less about satellite radio) hopefully my 09 doesn't have the problem.

Not so easy to do, and I believe the MP3 cd player unit itself runs to $400. Not sure, someone can correct me. It's swapping out the whole unit behind the faceplate. I'm not sure how easy it is, but I know it's easy to **** up if you apply too much force without thinking.

Dealers are there to sell cars, its your job to educate yourself. Salesman are pretty slimy and will tell you anything to get you to buy.

Hate to say it, but unless it is documented that the dealer told you it played MP3s then you are SOL. Check the window sticker, does it say that it plays MP3s? If not then you aren't going to get the dealer to do anything.
