boredom=custom fiberglass gauge pod
I had some extra time these past two days and i really like the racing beat gauge pod but didnt really feel like spending all the money for one so i was like ill just make my own, so i did.
Made the mold and fiberglassed it and then finished reinforcing it later last night and doing the finishing touches in a bit (final sanding and paint). Not sure what gauges im going to put in it yet so im not going to drill the holes but overall im very impressed and it only cost me about 30$ and my time (the amount of time and patient is extreme for this thing, very very tideous)
Right after pulling it off the mold and before i sanded everything smooth and removed the lip.
Just finished sanding it down and about to prep it for paint
Once i get done painting it ill get some more pics.

Im a hands a person... Honestly my last car i wanted to boost it so i simply bought a welder and starting learning until i got good enough to weld a manifold and exhaust. Same thing with this, i started with just some cheap fiberglass resin and practiced on something flat to learn curing times and just progressed until i could do complex things. Im thinking about making a front lip for my car next or a gauge pod for the steering wheel cover.

you can get like elmers or some cheap resin from lowes, (they might even sell the fiberglass itself). Then just get like a cup or something and practice making a mold using tape or clay and they the glassing itself.
I just realized racing beat sells there guage pods for 450$!!! maybe ill become a vender and sell mine for like 150 lol

After first coat of gloss black, alot of painting and sanding still to come...
Do do the lips i imagine i will use foam or clay (most likely clay). Ive become pretty good at freeforming fiber glass so once i get a general shape i can really work with it no problem.

for this i used mat and like i said i have alot of sanding and painting to still do . Right now the surface is not 100% smooth and the cell phone camera doesnt help its look, its not too bad so after a few layers of paint and sanding it should be good, if not then the bondo is coming out.

I wish I wasn't so mechanically declined... When i get in the mood to build something, the only thing i can do is go onto the sims and build a house haha. Looks good +1 to building it yourself.
