BIG tire wtf
So I just noticed this big ol crack in the front passenger side tire as I was cleaning my car, I still have a few months of bumper to bumper warranty left, do you think I could claim it for this?
Also on a separate point, look at the other pic, for some reason it looks different from the other 3 tires, the treads on the outside don't go all the way in to the groove in the middle, yes I know the tire is worn almost down to the indicators, but the one on the other side looks like the other 2 in front even tho it's just as worn.

The only "factory" warranty that covers tires is the one from Bridgestone or Dunlop. In that case it is prorated to treadwear, and only covers manufacturing defects. It seems you have 10% of your treadwear left and ran over something. I'd buy new tires.
I'm in the same boat, my original tires are almost bald and have a few cracks on the sidewall, though not nearly that bad.

I deal with situations everyday like this at work. what you need to do is call the manufacturer of the tire and explain what is goin on they will want tread depths the whole way across the tire. THen they will send you to one of their dealers.(I work in the auto center at sears and thats where alot of ppl come) then they will look at the tire. there will have to be a number called an RGA number given if they are goin to do anything. the tires are worn pretty bad so they might not do anything and all this depends on if the tires have a warranty. I know i just bought some falken 452s and they have no warranty what so ever.

Tires are not covered under bumper to bumper warranty.
Manufacturer's road hazard warranty is pro-rata. Your tires are pretty worn, you might get a couple of bucks for your trouble, but the hassle of trying to claim something falls in the "not worth it" department.

Forget the warranty, I wouldn't even drive the car with a crack like that in the tire. You are just asking for a blowout. Why did you let the tires get that worn anyway? You should have gotten new ones several thousand miles ago.

I just noticed the crack about 10 minutes before I took that pic, and I'm not driving it until I get new tires, the only driving it's doing is straight to the shop to get them changed.
The rear tires are about 1/32 to the wear indicator, I think I'm changing them at exactly the right time.

Already on the case of new tires, I posted in the tire forum if you guys would like to give me some input on choices.
On closer inspection of the "crack" I'm leaning about 50% chance towards my tire being vandalized, I don't see how such a crack could have formed in the first place.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add....
On friday I took the car in because the TPMS threw a light, had them check the tires and that particular tire with the crack in it turns out to have a cut in it about 1/10th the size of the crack you see in those pics along the back edge. Instead of replacing the tire, there is a big fat patch along the inside of the edge. The patch job held up for who knows how long plus the almost 6000 miles I've put on it.
For all I know the guys at big brand tire might have cut it on accident. That wheel seems to be cursed, the dealership put a big chip in the plating on the rim when they replaced my sticking brake calipers.
I knew new tires were coming, I was just trying to put it off a little bit longer.

1/32? Its law in AL that no one can even rotate legally tires that are at or below 3/32...I would imagine that is federal law, I don't know. I'm surprised a dealer or anyone would even attempt a patch or any sort on tread levels like that..or even before that with in reality a tear in the tire that bad.
My Dunlops I got 30K+ out of, with a lot of spirited driving. Have Kumhos which were free, and I'll be lucky if I get 20K out of them. I'll be wrapping my new wheels with either Toyo proxies or Falken's for sure.

well it's down to one of 3 falken tires:
FK-452s
ST-115s
RT-615s
I can get them all locally, installed for less than online prices of tires.
I'd love to get the 615s but I know a guy who wore thru them in 2600 miles on an rx8
I think it'll end up being the 452s
