Wow.... Y'all are picky...

I go through a tank every 3-5 days (the 8 is my commuter car).

Never had any knocking issues whatsoever, running 87 (regular) unleaded from any of the following stations: Shell, Swifty, Thorton's, Speedway, Marathon, Kroger, and miscellaneous truck stops for longer trips... To be perfectly honest, ALL gas stations in this area are supplied by the same refinery (Marathon/Ashland Oil); only difference is what additive crap a particular station wants to put in it, and the ethanol ratio.

About the only thing I notice is, Speedway costs the most, has the most volatile upward price swings, and generally gets the worst fuel economy (17.5 verses my typical 19.2), but sometimes, the bingo fuel light is on, and it's my only choice.

I've always subscribed to the theory that unless you have an issue, run with the lowest octane your engine will drink, 'cause otherwise you're just throwing money away for a false sense of "peace". No thank you...

(My 2004 8 has 76,000 miles and counting; I've put approximately 32,000 miles on it since I bought it in August of '08.)

wow you people dont drive at all..I've done a tank every other day before consistently.

luckily, I have a Shell station just down the block from where I live. Pumped nothing but 91 Vpower since a month ago when I rescued my 8. Shell ftw lol

Hehe, I actually did a tank a day in the DC area in a 91 Geo Tracker right after high school, something like ~200 miles to the tank. Thing was a piece of crap, and drove a ton. Only pay for about 7,000 miles worth of gas a year now.

greg985 02-13-2009 05:29 PM

Chevron w/ Techron FTW

the only downside is it normally costs more than Shell

REsuperD 02-13-2009 05:50 PM

i've been putting in sunoco 94 'cuz it's the highest octane i see, but apparently it's not very good? i'll probably switch to shell now

egads 02-13-2009 06:12 PM

Shell V-Power. It's actually almost always the cheapest gas here. Even can compete with the Safeway and Costco gas prices.

newguy 02-13-2009 06:54 PM

shell 91 or BP 93 always and i dont notice much diff between the 2

That would be because they are the same company...

Shell V-Power for me no matter what.

I hate sunoco, it felt sluggish when i put in 93 octane from them. I stick to shell from now on.

i just had a good 30 minute drifting sessions, and the needle hasn't moved. with v-power. v-power it is for me. i also heard you should just use 1 company repeatedly. and for the best mpg thing. i think shifting at 5 might be the best. shifting at 4k kills my mpg, and driving hard does nothing to the tank. rx8...you are weird...

Heh..down at school I don't really need to drive that far to get where I need to go...when I'm working at home, though, I was going through 2 tanks a week or so.

lol currently 88 cents a liter.... its bs it should be 40 cents a liter if were going by price per barrel because when they prices were high like 110 per barrel thats what it was per liter....

so ya were taking it in the arse:banghead:

Interesting reading. I used vpower (93) in my Impreza, but switched to Valero (93) when I got the RX8 to avoid the fuel additives (per Mazda recommendation). Not sure about the ethanol percentage on either here. 16-18 mpg on average.

LazyCody 02-14-2009 12:41 PM

I go between chevron or shell 93 octane and can't tell the difference. The only time I can actually feel any difference is when I stop by the ethanol free station and fill an empty tank with 93. There's is definitely better throttle response and the mileage seems to be better by anywhere from 2-5mpg.

cajunrx8 02-14-2009 01:10 PM

Shell around here sucks!! Too high priced, makes no difference in the car. Exxon and Chevron are generally cheaper than Shell.
Besides my Exxon stock does better whem you buy their gas!!!!

exsequor 02-14-2009 03:29 PM

Yea shell here kinda sucks. Generally 711, valero & diamond shamrock have the best gas here.

They have these shitty western gas stations that everyone lines up and goes to and its like always the cheapest in the city but I swear its like 5-10% water.

always.anthony 02-15-2009 01:57 AM

the shady places have water in it for sure.

dynamho 02-16-2009 07:29 AM

Shell V-Power

always.anthony 02-16-2009 08:30 PM

hmmmm....maybe this should be turned into a poll for noobies? along with oil?

what gas you use.
what oil you use.

so they have more confidence or peace of mind. and if not they can ask questions.

If memory serves, we do have them in Texas but they're not very common.
