best gas for the 8.

what gas stations do you guys commonly use, or do you go to wherever is convenient. and why?

shell, v-power for me.

reason: car seems to be overall better (smoother more responseful)

cons though, i feel like my gas mileage drops to like nothing while driving hard.

so far i was doing a bit of calculations with chevron. valero. and shell.

i get the best mpg with valero. 22 mpg highway
the 8 doesnt feel the same though

chevron, i find the worse. least gas mileage. and even worse when driving hard. 18 highway

shell. 20 mpg highway. seems more responsive like i said when driving hard.

i do ALOT of driving or lately at least. and i fill up about once every 2 days (havent had enough to top her off yet) i take the highway all the way to school, all the way back, and all the way to the gym. no stop and go traffic or city driving. all locations are right next to the highway.

Shell V-Power FTW. OK, I don't really know, I haven't done any data gathering, but Shell gas does seem better, anecdotally.

EDIT: I don't find worse gas mileage with V-Power, I actually seem to get better mileage with it. Driving style could make a difference though. I rev a lot and drive around town and get about 13-15 MPG on any gas.

i think it has to do with the v-power itself. i think v-power has 5%ethanol vs. 10% from all other gases. i'm not sure though. i'll have to look into that.

Mazurfer 02-12-2009 10:04 PM

In Florida(at least my area) the V-power pumps says it can be up to 10%, but not sure what it really has though. It is what I run in mine.

Myriad 02-12-2009 10:07 PM

I go through 2-3 tanks of gas a month - I fill up once with VPower per month, while the other times I use a branded 87 octane (mostly for highway). If I know i'm going to be driving hard, I go with VPower.

ahhh, so i'm starting to see a trend with v-power. nice to know others are putting it in their tank.

euro05rx8 02-12-2009 10:25 PM

i use mobile super plus all the time and the car runs great. there were some times i used regular when the prices were like $4 a gallon her in chicago. with regular the car seemed a little bit more sluggish on quick start ups and also seemed a little slower. i put v-power in the once too. i say mobile super plus is the best gas for it. i get about 18mpg city driving and most of it is driving hard too. lol Mobile Super Plus for me

maskedferret 02-12-2009 11:07 PM

As compared to regular 91 octane, I think V-Power is only $0.15-0.20 cents more. I figure $2-3 dollars more per fill about 3-4 times a month, an extra $110 a year maybe? Worth it for peace of mind to me. I just fill with V-Power all the time and think nothing of it.

Smirnofsoldier 02-12-2009 11:26 PM

you guys are getting raped! our v power here has no ethanol! WOOOT oh and shell gives me airmiles

but i also dont own an 8 YET! maybe this weekend :D but ya shell ftw

czar 02-12-2009 11:31 PM

91 octane? The shell i go to provides 93 octane at 1.99 per gallon

Yes, V-Power is 93 octane here. I am just comparing that to the alternative "regular" premium 91 octane options elsewhere.

Nice! did you find one?

AJ's Shinka 02-13-2009 01:49 AM

Nothing but Shell V-Power.

Ha, not picking on you but your sig is your car at chevron and I found it funny with what you said......I usually go with chevron or BP. Growing up in the bay area shell was always 20 cents or more per gallon and honestly made my other cars run like crap. Different cars like different additives though, the gas is the same just about everywhere all they do is dump a different additive in it. I wish I could find some non ethanol in my area they destroy early model z32's injectors.

bose 02-13-2009 10:36 AM

I always use Cheveron. We don't even have shell stations around here, well at least not anywhere near me. Nor do we get higher than 91 oct. Although there is one gas station by my school that I can get up to 105 octane, but it's like 5 bucks a gal.

moete87 02-13-2009 10:56 AM

I put in Sunoco 94 octane a few days ago because I was on E and running a little late to work wednesday morning, my car feels slow now and doesnt have good throttle response anymore. Last time I do that!

Shell V-Power for me no matter what.

CyberPitz 02-13-2009 10:59 AM

We don't have your guyses fancy pants "V-Power" gas....I got a concoco and that's it.

White_Shadows 02-13-2009 11:15 AM

Just a heads up "extra power" is seat of the pants unless you are truely knocking, in which the ecm should retard the ignition anyways. 84,81,91,93,98,110 none will give you "extra power" they all have 8 hydrocarbons (hence the Oct in octane) Just has to do with the additives ability to resist pre-detonation. So if you feel your car is "slower" that means your probably knocking and should not have put that sh!t in there.

always.anthony 02-13-2009 12:47 PM

so everyone has good experiences with v-power but one?

dozer 02-13-2009 12:53 PM

i use chevron with techron ;) most of the time, if not that then shell v-power...91 octane 24-7

elcolombiano91 02-13-2009 12:56 PM

yeah V-Power all the way !since the first day i bought her.

White_Shadows 02-13-2009 01:00 PM

Oh yeah forgot to say I use V-Power also.

RIWWP 02-13-2009 01:15 PM

Shell V-Power as well. The only performance difference I have ever detected between brands was the "premium" from Irving (canadian company), and I was tossing CELs left and right (i.e., 9 over 1 tank of gas). Their gas is ~0.20 cheaper per gallon, but not worth it.

The only reason I prefer Shell over others is based on perception more than anything tangible. Shell's prices have always seemed much more stable than other brands. Exxon's in a region seem to be able to vary is price up to nearly $1 per gallon at the widest swing ranges, Shells all seem to be prices very close together. You have to start traveling 40-50 miles to see a difference of more than 10-20 cents between locations. Yeah, gas station owners can adjust prices themselves, in which case similar prices by them all over a wide area tells me that they are all paying the same price for their shipments, or if you say that the prices are fixed by a regional management, then it tells me that they are stable enough to avoid having to get involved in pricing wars or whatnot. To me, that consistent pricing implies a stable company, which implies consistency and structure, and in the end, I don't want different quality of gas varying from tank to tank. I want that consistency. I have trouble believing Exxon can deliver that.

Might this all be complete BS and just perception based on nothing more than vapor? Sure. But I still go with V-Power :)

User24 02-13-2009 01:29 PM

It's all the same. I just get a top tier gas, and whatever highest octane they got.

chevron
shell
conoco
texaco
phillips66
76

Same thing, same thing, top tier.
