Benefits of midpipe

When I get my car back I was looking to install a midpipe because I heard it saved the cats from wearing down(aka not using them at all lol). I just got the car inspected so I dont need to get it again til 2012. Any other benefits? Or crucial differences?

Better flow for the engine. Probably a 5-8hp gain in HP, sound difference, weight reduction, FLAMES.

Get the BHR one though. The rest are just wasting your money. Sure, feel free to spend $100, $250 or something on another midpipe, it will develop the rasp (faster the cheaper you pay), and it will get on your nerves.

Start with the BHR midpipe right up front. No rasp, no packing to burn, fantastic fitment, wonderful sound, nice extra kick in the pants.

I will be getting one when I get my tax return most likely. Should I get the davesport cat too?

+1 for BHR midpipe. It's not hype and I'm not a fanboi. The BHR pipe is my third and last midpipe.

I haven't measured it, but probably. Heat doesn't get trapped in that location of the exhaust any more. Still some heat, but not nearly as much.

What about the CEL. my 8 is up for inspection and in texas we dont have the sniffer but they just plug in the OBII port. Im thinking i can just unplug the battery before i go in but it really cant be that easy.

You'll likely get a small performance boost, but not much.

Main benefits are more noise and FIRE Rev, REV, throttle lift, kaboom, FLAME!

No this will not work. There are a series of "flags" that must be set to OK by the PCM before the ready flag will trigger for emissions checking. If that flag isn't checked you will fail the emissions test.

It usually takes 2 to 3 drive cycles for these flags to get checked as there is a whole host of criteria the computer must complete. Unplugging your battery will prompt you to fail the test.

Do you think the few of us running Midpipes but don't have a CEL would pass ? I wonder what they can check while plugged into the OB II Port? It would be interesting to have my 8 pass that test but stink up the waiting line because I was running a midpipe. The inspector might go nuts wondering how such a smelly car can pass. I have the RB dual resonated pipe which could pass a visual inspection to most people not familiar with it.

I like my Agency Power. Has a little rasp but nothing ridiculous like some people made it out to be. Car feels faster from the mid-range and up and its dual resonated so its almost as quiet as stock. Weighs about half as much as the cat too.

I've always wanted to get a midpipe, but scared due to legal reasons. Everything I can find points to Joplin, MO not requiring an emissions check...but dunno.

Suggestions?

Move to Arkansas, they don't do vehicle inspections of any kind here, let alone emissions tests
