Now remember, people, let's be civil here.

The answer regarding the low torque issue is "So what?"

If you really want torque, this is the wrong car. Test drive a S2000 to decide whether or not a 9000rpm redline with less torque is 'acceptable' to you.

Torque schmorque. The thing gets from 0 to 60 in less than 6 seconds. The car is what others are afraid of.

Want torque, consider a semi.

Want an exilerating driving experience, get an RX-8.

Hope you make the right decision.

It will be something for me getting used to as well, however in the RX8's defense my 8 Cyl sound like they want to explode when I am about 4000RPM and the quality of *affordable* American Muscle is crap.

There is not much choice for exept a 350ZX for quality, price, handling, and power. And its post similiar times.

14.5 1/4 and 0-60 under 6 is pretty good for stock.

Torque is important, but it is not the only thing that will win races. RX-7s don't exactly have a lot of torque either, and they have one of the best winning records on the planet in many organizations (e.g. IMSA) . Definitely consider the S2000 test drive that Skyline Maniac mentioned, and good luck.

i think you should make sure that your deposit is refundable and then wait to drive the car. if when you get to drive it, you don't like it then take your money and try something else.

You should read those articles for yourself - Car and Driver chose it first in a comparison with the Mustang Cobra and 350Z, both cars that have a lot more torque on paper. That tells you that Car and Driver certainly was impressed with the car, not disappointed. If you value getting kicked back in the seat more than anything else, then perhaps a Mustang would satisfy you more than an RX-8. Overall, though, the RX-8 seems like it's going to be an excellent overall performance value. I would certainly advise that you should leave your deposit and drive the car before deciding (for yourself) if it has enough power or not.

Regards,
Gordon

Shaft,

RX-8 is a sports car like no other. Comparing cars based on Torque and HP numbers is one thing but you can't compare any car based on the feel you get from driving it. I am pretty confident that its going to be an exhilirating and 'unique' experience driving this car.

Just wait until you actually drive it, also test drive other options on your list, and then make ur decision. I hope you'll pick the RX and be a happy man :-)
