Bad News!!!

Well I went to Carmax yesterday to pick up the RX8 that I had them ship down from another Carmax dealership in Missouri. They told me over the phone that everything was good with the car. I went with a truck & trailor to tow it back. The Good news was the car looked very clean & well taken care of. No dents, dings or scratches anywhere. The Bad news is that when I took it for a test drive it drove like ****!!! It turned off on me at every single stop I made. This car had no power what so ever. I even got it on the highway & stomped the pedal & it barely moved. Once off the highway again when I cam to a stop it cut off. So I got out of the car & made the sale person drive the rest of the way. I felt bad for the guy cuz he didn't no what to do or say. I was very dissapointed with this RX8. Although it had no power it still handled very well. After all this I went to a few diferent dealerships to look at other cars & even drove an other RX8 & was still disapointed. I ended up buying an Sweet *** Infiniti G35 Coupe.

The 8 may not be a 0 - 60 car, but it still has a lot of power in the upper RPM ranges. Decent speed + great handling = the right car for me. Obviously the car you purchased had some issues......typically, RX8s do not shut off every time you slow the car down. That's the reasoning for the reduction in power. Of course, if you still drove another 8 and it was "slow", as you put it, why did you buy the car in the first place?

Thanks for stopping by this forum. Have a nice life.

I didn't buy the 8. I paid $400.00 to have it shipped to a closer Carmax dealership & I did get it refunded back to me. Great handling is correct, decent speed when compared to a Geo Metro. After the service center ran some test they called me back & said that the spark plugs neede to be replaced. They have already been replaced before. I forgot to mention that they were pre owned 8's.

Ya my RX8 is slow too and always shuts off on me..........not. The car revs to 9 grand. If you want power out of the RX8 just keep it at a higher rpm. I've beat and lost to domestiic cars such as Cameros, Mustangs, and GTO's. An Rx8 isn't the fastest car, but by no means is it slow. You just got to know how to drive it. Unless you test drove an automatic. I've heard those have alot less power, but I have never been in one to find out for myself. You got a G35. That's cool. G35 is maybe gonna be a lil faster in a straightline, but I'm guessing that any RX8 will beat it in handling. Who knows. Maybe I'm wrong.

The first one I drove was an automatic & that is the one that would shut off on me. So then I went somewhere else & drove a Manual. It was way better than the auto & didn't shut off on me. I took it out to some back roads & opened it up a few different times at different rpm's even red lighting it. It handled very well but just didn't have the kind of power I thought it would.

So does this mean you won't be posting here any more? Great! I feel sympathy for the folks at whatever Infiniti board you might join.

Seems like you didnt test before paying for it to be shipped? If that's the case, that wasnt very nice towards the carmax. Sure they can -afford- to do it, but the idea behind it is that you ask them to ship when you know that you want the car... It sounds like you didnt want he car to begin with. Also, I didnt think -you- were looking for an 8 or even wanted one, it was your g/f. I'm assuming you didnt get the new G35 coupe if you were looking at used 8's, and in that case, you got a car that's only slightly faster than the 8... not quite sure if that very small bit of acceleration is what did it for you, but have fun.

if anyone drives an RX8 that feels slow, there must be something wrong with it. I have a 13second car i used to drive for my daily driver and my rx8 i just bought feels like it pulls harder to be honest.

an absolute loss to the RX8 community. please, please reconsider and sell back your G35 to get an 8 so you can participate here more often. your insight is invaluable here.

don't let the door hit ya.....

oh, so what's the bad news by the way?

Should of done your research first. Most people buying this car know its not a 0-60 contender. Take your G35 to a road course and then compare it to the 8

Maybe you drove some cars that needed the engine replaced. That may be why they ended up available on the used market...

I don't know why all of ya'll are taking this to heart. I'm not saying anything bad about your cars. I'm just saying the truth about the two 8's I test drove. I never said they were bad cars just didn't have the power I thought it would. I understand that there is 9K rpm's to work with but it was still slow to me. Also to say that these cars pull harder than a 13 sec car is a complete lie. The first 8 I test drove was an auto cuz my g/f didn't want an manual. The 2nd one was a manual. The G35 is a way better car to drive than the 8 IMO say don't take it to heart.
