Unhappy bad motor mount in my rx-8

My RX-8 was diagnosed with bad motor mount and is in the shop now. I started noticing vibration when in car is stopped and it got worse progressivly. It was like a bee hive today before I took it in for service. Hopefully I will have it back by tomorrow.

I was wondering if anyone had similar problem with their rx-8? I thought RX-8 would be more reliable since it was built in japan, but that must be a thing of a past.

Well, other than that, mazda dealer provided awesome service and also are paying for the rental car. Thank god I still have a warranty... this made me wonder if I should have purchased extended warranty.

:p

It's not a common fault, but it has happened in the past. I can recall two or three others that have had mounts fail. A newly designed mount was fitted.....one that had a shield to protect it from radiant engine bay heat.

When was your car manufactured?

mine is 2004 model and I think it was purchased on december of 2004 by first owner? but that doesn't really tell when it was manufactured... Car could have been sitting on a lot for a long time.

Hopefully they will install newly designed motor mounts on mine. I can't wait to have silky smooth rx-8 back. I am already tired of SUV they rented me out.

They will. The older style will have been discontinued.

Lots of others have had this problem. It's the passenger side motor mount, correct? Many believe it's due to the exhaust manifold heat that makes them crack.
Link to thread here.

It was also mentioned that this problem was one step below being a TSB.

Hey I may be having this little problem. I have a small vibration when the car is at idle and when the engine is completely warmed up. It usually happens when im stopped at a stop light. Could this be the motor mount? I was going to take it to the dealer for the next oil change and have them check it out. What you guys think?
