auto Rx8, experiences. opinions?

I test drove an "auto 8" today and was amazed at the handling,
cornering, sound, and sex appeal. Although it appears to be
quick enough for me, the built and finish is what surprised
me. I haven't read much about the auto 8 performance figure,
top speed, time trials etc. The salesman did not know much
either about the auto. Pleasde help. Thanks.

my personal opinion...if it feels good enough for you when you test drive it, it probably is good enough for you to go buy it.

I have had the auto for 2 weeks. I usually flip it to manual mode after about 5 minutes and find that down shifting is great just like in a stick. The performance is great and the only thing I miss a clutch for is to remind me to shift up when in manual mode (the engine is so smooth you don't even notice when you are at 5k rpm). I had a G35 coupe before this (auto again) and could never get used to using it in manual mode. I got the auto since my wife doesnt drive a stick and for the odd time she needs to take the car. I like the paddles on the steering wheel as well. Then there is the 1200 bucks you save on the price. It has 40 less hp but it sure seems peppy enough for me (the G35 had more power but was a much heavier feeling car).

Love the car .... would have preferred the 6MT, but you have to make decisions in life ... and I'm not complaining! Like Mistryl said, if you drove it and liked it, you answered your own question. I agree completely with your initial assessment -- handling, cornering, sound, sex appeal -- they are all up there! The car is AWESOME, 6MT or 4AT!!

hey, anyone know how high the rpms are in the 4AT at around 70-80 mph? On the 6MT, at 70-80 it's at 4k or above.
