Super charging an auto is like putting breast implants on Hilary Clinton. It will only distract you from the suck. Gilding the turd.

Drag racing an auto rx8, I suppose there's nothing wrong with that. Then again, I guess if you like jerking off with sandpaper, go ahead and do that too. Both are about as rewarding.

Look, I hate the AT RX-8 as much as the next guy... However, give this guy a break. He took his car to the strip rather than telling us some lame street racing story how he beat a 10+ year old NA Supra with 200k miles. Even with a slow car going to the strip is fun, the people watching is great, it's a bunch of car people (rednecks or not), and I don't care what you say, cars running 9 second or better 1/4 miles is damn impressive and fun to watch.

Roadcourses are great, I turned more laps at a track before I was 16 than most of you will in a lifetime. BUt gross displays of horsepower are a hell of a lot of fun as well. If this guy wants to take his slow car to the strip and be part of the fun, more power to him (ok, maybe not much power ).

low 14's is respectable for a stock car. Big difference between high 16's and low 14's buddy.

Nice Jeep, what kind of lockers?

If you are just looking for a little more speed at the 1/4 mile races, and it is fine as an everyday driver, you seriously might try some nitrous. A nice 55 shot will give you some substantially better times, and when youa re driving the car around everyday, you can just turn the system off.

You could get Pettit's supercharger. Moon Assad's car has 205whp at 7psi with a smaller blower than the one they're using for production. Once he puts on the larger blower (like the kind you'd be buying) he's expecting another 20-30whp. That puts you at around 235whp. That's enough to blow the doors off of any N/A manual RX-8.

Kudo's for going and posting a time. Do you happen to remember the trap speed? Low 16's is better than I thought it'd be (some people around here seem to think that 14.5 is fast, so ignore the negative comments ). A higher stall torque converter could easily knock half a second off of that. A Pettit supercharger or Greddy turbo would put it in the low-mid 14's.

If the AT could get off the line, it's not a terribly slow car. Run the 1/4 in a 6MT 8 without the clutch drop and see how fast it is (high 15's at best would be my guess). The gearing on the 4AT doesn't help, and is more suited to a FI car, but the car accelerates fairly well above 4krpm.

Again, kudo's for throwing it out there and putting up with some of the idiocy here.

Not from me. I can drive a manual, just choose not too in a daily driver, for my own reasons. Seems to be alot of MT owners talking without knowledge here though. Consider me a voice of reason.

I'm currently on the hunt for one of these for a weekender (in replica form of course, as I don't have 3/4 of a million dollars laying around):

And to stay on topic. The 87mph trap speed is important. That equates to roughly 165rwhp, which is quite a bit lower than advertised by Mazda for the 6 port AT (that's actually pretty close to advertised 4 port numbers). What altitude (approximately) was this run at?

I checked out a '57 Speedster replica that was done by Beck yesterday. Looked pretty well done, but replicas bug me for some reason.

The dealer also had this thing

http://www.reinaintlauto.com/invento...+Sports+Figure

Also, 165whp would have him trapping higher than 87.

Well I just used a random calculator off the web (3200lbs for weight) so it could be off. I'm not too familiar with trap speeds down there.

Replicas usually bug me, but considering I'll never touch a real one, this replicates the original performance, and there are less than a couple thousand replicas out there, this one doesn't bother me. I would go on and on, but I don't want to hijack this thread.
