Question Auto Dimming Mirror with Tinted Rear Window

Question:
I bought my 8 used and it already had the rear window tinted pretty freakin' dark. It has the auto dim mirror but it hasn't ever worked. I assume this is because of the tint. Anybody else with a tinted rear window have one that works? The green light is on and the homelink works fine. Thanks...

You can turn the auto dim on and off. There are sensors in the front and rear or your mirror...

Might want to check the manual to make sure it's turned on. All it will do is turn everything into a green color. Glare goes away, but if you've never had one before, you might not notice it working.

I've got 14% in the back, works OK. You may want to watch the next time a car is behind you and see if it's headlights are shining into that sensor. Mine doesn't always work because there is some kind of shadow that shades the bottom part of my mirror thus blocking that sensor. You may try a different angle to get it higher. worth a try at least....

I'm not even sure how it functions. I can have the car closed up with the window shade and when I take the window shade away, the mirror goes from green to clear within seconds. No light was shining on the sensor.

I have 5% all around. Trust me, it works, but with my tint, Glare is NEVER a problem.

You can turn it off.

Push the I button.

Works fine for me, those auto dims do not work too well in daylight unless you have tint on the rear window. Without the tint the can't pick up the daytime headlights!

I checked it out this morning coming in to work. Sure enough, some of the time the headlights behind me had a "green" tint and sometimes they didn't. Not a drastic change with the dark tint. So it is actually working fine and I just wasn't sure what to look for :o Thanks for the help!

glad to hear that everything is working. I have 35% all around and 40% front and it still makes a difference

I have 20% tint all around and don't have the auto-dim mirror. I guess that doesn't help you :p

If it's tinted dark enough, would it even matter if the mirror works or not?

I'm planning on getting mine tinted because of the fantastic design decision on Mazda's part. (not making mirror separate option like on every single of their other cars)

I might be getting my windows tinted today, never thought about this being a possible issue.

Interesting....
