Aussie from Sydney needs your opinions!!

Whatsup everyone,

Considering buying an RX8, however as you can imagine after doing abit of research i have found more reasons to put a shadow over my decision then anything!

First off, i'll only be driving the car on weekends, i get the train to work monday to friday, i leave at 6:50am to start work at 8, finish at 5, gym from 5:30-7:30 (yes monday - friday, i cant say when the last time i had a day off during the week in the last 6 months) and by the time my train gets home i get in about 8:30-9 so i legitimately wont be driving it unless its the weekend.

now, basically i would like to know what I should look out for when buying my new rx8, the expected engine life (with proper maintenance, oil changes spark plugs etc), and finally, your opinion on this particular RX8 i have had my eye on for the last 2-3 days:

2009 MAZDA RX-8 GT FE Series 2 Coupe Private Cars For Sale in NSW - carsales.com.au

Also, how often should spark plugs and coils be changed? what should i check for in this car to show signs of negligence of maintenance?

feel free to email me in case of time difference! kris.gee@live.com. Thanks guys eagerly waiting some responses!

The link above me is filled with a ton of useful info. If the car is going to sit M-F where will it sit?

If in a garage, I suggest hooking a battery tender up to it. I have an RX7 that only get driven on weekends and I keep one in it and I have one for the 8 in case it will sit for a few days at a time, I am a big fan of keeping the battery topped off.

That looks like a really clean low mileage car, that YOU get to take good care of from here on out. Also look into an extended warranty, I just bought an '09 and it had 1 month left on the factory, which meant an extended was pretty cheap, like 2500 USD for 5 years and 60 months bumper to bumper.

That car almost looks like it is what is called here in the stated an R3 package. I think those are Recaro seats in it, that means stiffer suspension, obviously the seats and the 19" BBS rims as well as some cosmetic ques.

Good looking car!! Good luck!

dammit! sorry for the nooby post man, i thought i looked through the forums for a thread like that, but jesus! if there was any way to cast any more doubt over this decision lol. there are so many risk factors!! i appreciate that you looked into the car for me bro, so 15000kms there isnt much i should be looking into engine wise or? should i take it for the compression test?

In my opinion, it has very low kms, so the liklihood that it has a low compression engine is very low. Even if the previous owner really abused it, it will more than likely pass a compression test. If the car is for sale from a Mazda dealer, just have them compression test it just so you know.

With this low of kms, I think it will be a reliable car as long as you take good care of it.

i literally JUST finished that epic friggin thread, and while ive taken in a crapload, i feel like its the tip of the iceberg lol. im aware of the finance, but i probably wont even do 10-15000 kms a year, im looking at about 2-350kms a week (I'll definitely be taking it into work on sundays, right into the sydney CBD) lol. this place is awesome, cant wait to upload my rx8 pic for avatar. also, ive noticed alot of terminology among the threads is synonymous with /b/ haha, are you guys all lurkers orr?

Looks like a good car. Remember this car likes to be driven hard to prevent carbon build up. If you can join us at the RX8 nationals in Golburn then you can test your car on the track.

The NSW club members have regular meets in Sydney...check out the Mazda RX-8 Club of Australia forum

Thanks for the compliment, but I'd recommend just leaving it as a hyperlink for them, as I make changes and updates to it frequently. Always a work in progress.

The 2nd link in my sig is related to modding, but along the same theme.

Looks like you are getting the answers you need, and it look like you are really getting scared yet, so you might find the 8 worth it all

no dramas man, credit where its due, ***** hella informative. I'm definitely shaking at the moment, but man i want this car so bad. Finances arent TOO big of a problem, but my mrs will destroy me if **** hits the fan and im forking out $$$ for it (We've just established mortgage plans lol).. you studied proffesional it seems in regards to RX8's what do you reckon of the car in the link that i posted? When should sparks and coils be changed? Obviously theres alot of speculation on it, guidelines saying between 20-30000kms, but should i change them right away or just wait till about 25000?
