Arent my doors supposed to auto lock after a minute?

Am I imagining things or didmy Rx8 used to automatically lock itself when exiting the car after a minute if I forgot to lock it w/my remote? I leftthe car unlocked for an hour the otherday b/c I had toomany things in my hands whengetting out of the car but thoughtit was okay since thesystem was supposed to automatically lock itselfafter a period of time passed. Iwas prettypissed when I got backand found the doors unlocked. Then Ilocked the car andthen unlocked it againand stood there for 5 minuteswaiting for it to lock itself but it never did. Isnt it supposed to be autolocking or amI confusing this w/a feature my last car had? I couldhave sworn my car used to do this...maybe the friggin dealer disabled a bunch of **** when they replaced my tranny

My car will auto lock if I unlock it but don't open either of the doors within about 1 minute.

I don't think it locks if you just get out, leave it and walk away, that would be bad, you could lock your keys inside while cleaning the car or something.

to my recollection, it only works if u unlock the car with the remote and say u had to go in the house to get something, then it'll lock itself after a min or so. on the other hand, i'm not sure about it locking automatically after getting out of the car after a drive

They do auto lock! I know it does it after the car has been locked for awhile and you unlock it (I think there may be a time for it to be set before the feature works). However, I don't think it will do it if you have driven the car and left the doors unlocked. When you went back and checked it did you lock it and unlock it immediately or did you give it some time for the security features to set before you unlocked it again?

The Keyless Control Module will automatically re-lock the car if the doors have been fob unlocked but no door opened after 30 seconds. The car will not auto lock when you walk away after closing the door...that could be dangerous. JeRKy 8, you were mistaken if you thought the car automatically locked when you shut the door after exiting.....

Sounds totally right to me. It does not automatically lock unless you unlock it with the remote and then fail to open a door within a certain amount of time. I've opened a door intentionally how many times, after unlocking with the remote, just to trick it and keep it unlocked. (Okay, I've forgotten the names of who I lingered outside for after unlocking it. Whatever.)

Just to beat the horse dead . . . this is absoultely right! The autolock only happens if the doors have been closed and the unlock button is hit, the system will wait about a minute then auto lock the car figuring that you meant to hit the lock button and not the unlock button. The car will NEVER just lock itself without a button being hit, and I KNOW this because I leave my car unlocked all the time overnight now that I have moved somewhere safe. Your car is working properly.

...and just to make it clearer, the time delay before auto re-lock is EXACTLY 30 SECONDS after fobbing the car unlocked

Let me see if I understand this.

Unlock + don't open + walk away = auto lock
Unlock + open door + whatever = no auto lock

Peanut butter + jelly = delicious lunch
Gyro + feta = even better lunch

Just to confuse the issue more - - - Doesn't accessing the trunk trigger the car to autolock after a set interval?

kind of,

if you unlock it, pop the trunk, then close the trunk after 30 seconds, the car will re lock.

So I usually pop the trunk first, unlock it, let my wife start loading the groceries into the trunk, open the door, start the engine...., and then help if she's not already done.

You got it!

The trunk drives me nuts, because for a while, when I went to pop the trunk, I would hit the unlock door button at the same time and 30 seconds later all of my doors would lock, which would mean digging the key back out to unlock the doors when I knew that I had left them open.

As for just hitting the trunk open button when the doors are unlocked and then having the doors lock after thirty seconds, that could be right but I don't know. I've never done that experiment. Could be interesting to find out.

Is there any way to auto-lock?

My wifes truck auto-locks and I've gotten rather spoiled by that. Now with the 8 I have on occasion had to go back out to make sure I locked it because I've found it unlocked a few times. :o

Anybody know of a mod that will enable auto-lock when I get out and stupidly forget to lock it?

Nope, I'd suggest reading the manual but I've read it and still find myself looking things up occasionally.

Actually, peanut butter + jelly (jam) = copious vomit. You guys eat some weird *** stuff.

Did you know that Vegemite can be used as wheel bearing grease, too.....?

What else would one use vegemite for? It sure has h**l isn't food . . . and don't even mention marmite. I had a girlfriend in England who ate that, but she had mental problems, which I guess explains it.

Enjoy the summer!!! Winter is looking like it will be very hard around these parts this year.

Yeah, I cringe when I read of you blokes parking your cars for the winter. That's got ***** on it, I reckon . A true car enthusiast would move to a warmer clime....like Australia! Would be nice to see a few more (non Shinka) Rx-8's on the road down here.....

Aah . . . Bach.

Yes, I have not one Iota of an idea what you are on about my friend, however, I have not and will not "park" my 8. So throw another "shrimp" on the "barbie" and enjoy your summer.

(but why someone would want to put an ocean dwelling shellfish on an overpriced mattel doll, I'll never know)

Is that supposed to be a recomendation???? I haven't tried it, but since I haven't had the opportunity and I've heard some scary things about that stuff, I'm SURE not going to go out of my way to look for it!
