ARC intake

i have the op to buy one of these for my rx8, the guy selling it told me his engine light came on with it and it stalled at lights once in a while....the intake is a good one made specifically for the rx8 why does this happen?
I was told that it is a different computer setting for the japanese models is this true, different mass airflow sensor..etc...if this isnt true then i can figure out what is wrong with this thing and buy it, however if the japanese version is a totally differnt mapping system then i am out...

Never heard of anyone buying one or offering one for the RX8.

I would ask where he bought it from and do some research. If the MAF tube is not exactly the right diameter (which sounds like the problem). You'll have problems with it.

Such as: poor idle, AFRs off, possible misfires.

AEM
Mazdaspeed (rebadged AEM)
Racingbeat
K&N Typhoon V2

Are the 4 main intakes for this car that are known to work well and widely used.

great first post

if it's such a piece and doesn't work on his car why would you buy it for yours expecting something different?

yeah i have never heard of ARC making an intake for the 8 however with the probs he's having i wound't buy it soudn like the MAF tube is the wrong size.... also an intake will really give you no noticable gain unless u want the noise...that's about it maybe 1 to 2 HP

ARC does a lot for the Tiburon/Tuscani. Quality stuff as well. Guessing the intake actually was NOT made for the 8. It was made for something else and modified to fit the 8.

but that's my guess.

arc intakes are just EYE candy for cars. They heat soak pretty bad on other cars and with the RX-8, that would most likely cause a major horsepower loss. Throttle response, however, is amazing.

here's the one i had on my s2k.

From the link:

This makes absolutely no sense...I would never buy an intake with this description...

"The ARC super induction box focuses on low, mid, and high engine response. When stepping on the gas, in between the cleaner and the intake manifold is unused air. "

lol have you ever heard of ARC magic? They're a jdm company that creates high-end parts but are famous for their "lost in translation" statements.

"The ARC MAGIC is wonders assembled project. They present comfortable and unknown car life with ARC magic power."

The Racingbeat, AEM, and Mazdaspeed are all very high quality and work well/look great but cost a lot less.

So you're really paying for the rarity. JDMYO!1!!
