Anyone order the lip spoiler?

I'm trying to preorder the lip spoiler (as a port option) and my dealer is telling me all he has the part number for is that "St. Louis Arch" style wing. What's the deal? Anyone have the part number for just the lip spoiler.

rotary_it_up 05-28-2003 10:41 PM

It is not available to US customers.

I know that the Europe spec cars are getting them. You could probably get one shipped over at some point.

rxtreme 05-28-2003 10:46 PM

In that case, I may look to the aftermarket for something. I just don't really like that arch-style wing.

RotorGeek 05-28-2003 10:49 PM

Yeah I will also be waiting for the lipspoiler to become available via aftermarket

Same here. That's my plan.

I really like the lip spoiler better than the arch-style. I'm sure it will available through Mazda at some point in the near future.

Hercules 05-28-2003 11:35 PM

Ditto.

Let's write Mazda en-masse and get them to put it on :p

I'm in agreement with all, would love to the the lip spoiler in the USA.

What does the Lip Spoiler look like can someone post a pic

crouzer 05-29-2003 12:11 AM

Someone should build a lip-like retractable spoiler. Meaning when its up it provides greater downforce (at greater speeds) and when its down it looks similar to a "seamless" lip spoiler. :D :D :D :D :D :D

Hercules 05-29-2003 12:12 AM

Best I could do..

Porsche has it. It's pretty seamless though not 100%.

Yup. This one site describes it as a "twin-plane spoiler".

Thats a beautiful blue RX-8 BTW. Ok, I'm off topic. Sorry. ;)

For your viewing pleasure:

They were also standard on one of my old cars - a VW Corrado. It was a great little toy for posing!

And a couple of (not very good I'm afarid ) images. I think this would be a really good idea for the RX8!

AndyPearce 05-29-2003 05:56 AM

And this one showing the effect on downforce it has;

Lip spoiler

Try this

rxeightr 05-29-2003 09:16 AM

Great pic simrjor. I also will be getting this type of Lip Spoiler when they become available.

mx32mpsrx8 05-29-2003 09:48 AM

The lip spoiler is another example of a part the US isn't even given the option of having. I don't get why the do this....

dreamgetter1 05-29-2003 10:09 AM

looks kinda cheap to me, I think I prefer the arch wing.:)

ReX-8 05-29-2003 01:33 PM

Like the lip more and wish it will be available soon. To me the arch spoiler looks great w/ the appearance pack., but w/o the pack. definitely the lip.

The more I look at the spoilers (lip, arch, etc.) the more I think they just ruin the fluid lines the designers spent so much time perfecting. The rear view of the 8 almost looks like it was designed to give the appearance of a spoiler (area where the center rear tail light is). Not sure I want to "spoil" the original look :(

I'm with you, RXhusker. The lip spoiler just doesn't add anything, IMO, and the arch spoiler is 'too much'. The stock 8 already looks like it has a lip spoiler from the rear. I'll stay stock, thank you very much. I'd much rather have those Mazdaspeed side mirrors :D

Pretty sharp, but I think I would miss the illuminated-entry that comes with the standard mirrors. Maybe they'll have an after-factory set like this with the lights.
