Anyone order the lip spoiler?
I'm trying to preorder the lip spoiler (as a port option) and my dealer is telling me all he has the part number for is that "St. Louis Arch" style wing. What's the deal? Anyone have the part number for just the lip spoiler.

It is not available to US customers.
I know that the Europe spec cars are getting them. You could probably get one shipped over at some point. |
In that case, I may look to the aftermarket for something. I just don't really like that arch-style wing.
|
Yeah I will also be waiting for the lipspoiler to become available via aftermarket

Ditto.
Let's write Mazda en-masse and get them to put it on :p |
I'm in agreement with all, would love to the the lip spoiler in the USA.

What does the Lip Spoiler look like can someone post a pic
|
Someone should build a lip-like retractable spoiler. Meaning when its up it provides greater downforce (at greater speeds) and when its down it looks similar to a "seamless" lip spoiler. :D :D :D :D :D :D

Porsche has it. It's pretty seamless though not 100%. Thats a beautiful blue RX-8 BTW. Ok, I'm off topic. Sorry. ;) For your viewing pleasure: |

And a couple of (not very good I'm afarid ) images. I think this would be a really good idea for the RX8!

And this one showing the effect on downforce it has;

Great pic simrjor. I also will be getting this type of Lip Spoiler when they become available.

The lip spoiler is another example of a part the US isn't even given the option of having. I don't get why the do this....
|
looks kinda cheap to me, I think I prefer the arch wing.:)
|
Like the lip more and wish it will be available soon. To me the arch spoiler looks great w/ the appearance pack., but w/o the pack. definitely the lip.

Originally posted by RXhusker The more I look at the spoilers (lip, arch, etc.) the more I think they just ruin the fluid lines the designers spent so much time perfecting. The rear view of the 8 almost looks like it was designed to give the appearance of a spoiler (area where the center rear tail light is). Not sure I want to "spoil" the original look :( |
Originally posted by khoney I'm with you, RXhusker. The lip spoiler just doesn't add anything, IMO, and the arch spoiler is 'too much'. The stock 8 already looks like it has a lip spoiler from the rear. I'll stay stock, thank you very much. I'd much rather have those Mazdaspeed side mirrors :D what do the mazdaspeed mirrors look like? |
Mirrors
Also try http://www.mazda.co.jp/mazdaspeed/ RX8 under 3rd tab

Don't mean to be dumb here, but somewhere I read that the drag coefficient was .31 without spoiler and .30 with spoiler, so it does add something. The question is, which spoiler has this result, and is it meaningful? I'd expect better gas mileage (1-2%) for long high speed runs, but no effect for local driving. Thoughts? |
