Anybody have a dealer accuse you of drifting?

I recently went into the dealer because both my sun visors separated (TSB). I had also been experiencing a slow leak (about 1 psi per day) in my front right tire so I asked them to look at it to see if it could be repaired. They informed me that it was a bead leak and they could repair it for $43. That sounded kind of high, but I said go ahead with it. Anyways, I checked my tire pressure a couple of days later and it was low. I have had to re-inflate the tire several times since then (2 weeks ago) and the rate of leakage has been the same. I finally had the time to stop back in the dealer today and they looked at the tire again. Apparently there is a small cut on the sidewall on the back side of the tire that is leaking air. They quoted me $270 to replace the tire. I wasn't prepared to spend this much so I declined. I was a little mad that they had missed the cut the first time and got charged the $43, so I asked for a refund of the previous unnecessary repair. The guy told me that there was no way they missed the cut the first time and that this is a different leak. There is no way, the tire has never stopped leaking and the rate of leaking has been consistent. After arguing for a minute, out of nowhere, he proceeds to say that the tech told him that I had been drifting my car. My car is bone stock, I have never done any sort of racing or drifting, and I have 24,000 on my original tires and they still have a lot of tread left. I would say that I drive a little spirited, but nothing out of the ordinary, so I couldn't believe he would be making an insane claim like this with no base or evidence. I called Mazda North America and filed a complaint and they said they would send me a gift card (which I'm not sure what I am going to do with). Is there anything else I should do? Needless to say, I won't be going back to this dealer.

No, and if they did, I'd drift right into their service bay, tires 'a smokin', and chew out the dealer manager.

Ross_Dawg 09-15-2008 09:31 PM

lol WTF? go to the dealer, talk to the G.M. and get that techs ass fired!

nothing you can do, just stay away from them definitely

Easy_E1 09-15-2008 09:33 PM

As we know most dealers are STUPID. Just move along and chalk it up to a lesson learned. But I would bitch about the $43.00 some more.

Jedi54 09-15-2008 09:40 PM

wow, yet another example of a stupid service dept.

YaXMaNGTO 09-15-2008 09:49 PM

Drifting is not a crime... unless youre a service manager.

LOL. I would have LOVED to do that.

nycgps 09-15-2008 10:31 PM

rofl, drifting ?

wow, another new idea for them to cover their shitty work ?

Just take the hit and avoid them at all cost in the future. They lose, you win.

lol nice

I'm not sure how they check for tire leaks but I've had a bad experience with it as well. I had a nail in my tire and told them specifically where it was. I did everything but point it out to them and figured it wouldn't be too hard to locate the head. A few hours later I go back up there.

They said they didn't find a leak or a nail. They said they did a submersion test to find an air leak and nothing was found. I was shocked and figured maybe I was just crazy. Sure enough there was the nail and they then said it was in a irreparable spot and then tried to sell me new tires because I only had a few thousand miles left on them as is.

I laughed and went home and ordered them off tire rack.

DOMINION 09-16-2008 01:31 AM

I would have did a realy big burn out in the service bay  all the way!

NgoRX8 09-16-2008 01:56 AM

drift between the dealer cars. hahahhaha......................................... ....

laythor 09-16-2008 02:49 AM

I would not be able to contain my rage if a service tech said something like that to me.

8 Maniac 09-16-2008 02:57 AM

I would have started by saying that is not the case and asking how on earth they decided that to have any truth to it.

Mazdaspeed RX8 ver2 09-16-2008 03:06 AM

wow... the dealer blamed my cold air intake for my engine flood. funny things was... my intake is mazdaspeed and had to tell the tech that if it did that, they better send out a service bulletin for the ms intake....

DOMINION 09-16-2008 03:49 AM

If they give you a rental drift it into the service bay :lol2:

04RX8man 09-16-2008 03:16 PM

yeah I would have bitched for hours and hours till something happened hence never go back to that dealer.....oh by the way I was talking with one of the Parts guys from the local mazda dealer and he was telling me how shitty the customer service there is hahah i just laughed and said "yeah I know" haha...just thought it was funny since he even worked there

Renesis07 09-16-2008 03:21 PM

I would've laughed and asked them to prove it; then I wouldve called Mazda while still there in front of him and explained the circumstances (while being calm) then wouldve passed my iphone off to the rep so I could have the pleasure of watching him get chewed out by Corperate, then after I got my tire repaired for free, I wouldve drifted out of the service bay. HA!!

Socket7 09-16-2008 06:27 PM

Your local comcast cable co does advertising targeted by location. You could be a real ass and spend a couple hundred bucks to put up commercials talking about how the dealer is a scammer who takes your money and doesn't provide services. It's freedom of speech.

Socket7 09-16-2008 06:28 PM

I would contact the general manager and request a refund. If that doesn't work, I'd file a complaint with the better business bureau. Calling mazda north america is also a good route to go, it has more pull, but the BBB is more likely to be on your side.

Renesis07 09-16-2008 06:29 PM

I think my method wouldve been better ;) jk

Another option that only cost $25 would be a small claims case. Making the GM spend a few hours in court will prompt him give you the $43 + the $25 filling fee. By the way I also once received a Mazda Gift card. It's much easier for Mazda to to send you $100 gift card than fix their poor service. Use it for parts or some mazda mod.

To be named later 09-16-2008 06:50 PM

What dealer? (So others can avoid this particular dealer)

04RX8man 09-16-2008 08:05 PM

Actually I would have told the GM that the car does not have enough torque to drift and it is impossible hahaha

Atilla 09-16-2008 08:20 PM

i had this cop pull me over and site me for wreckless driving about a month ago when i caught an oversteer off of a freeway exit. He proceeded to lecture me about how dangerous 'drifting' my car was...and how racing isn't cool :uhh:

i didn't have the heart to tell him i was driving an Automatic  i did ask him to please write down that i was 'drifting' on the ticket because my friends will never believe that i just got pulled over for this sh1t...
