I'm lost. A mid pipe would replace a cat converter, is that what you want?

Well if you're asking if you can just take the stock muffler off, then yes you can.

You can run with the cat and everything off after that. I actually did this for about 10 seconds when I was replacing my exhaust with the Mazdaspeed Exhaust. It's not too loud.

If you take the cat off, then OH HOLY CRAP! You can probably wake the neighborhood within a 2 mile radius.

I think things are a little mixed up here.
maybe this'll help.

1. Headers

2. cat (catalytic converter)
- you can replace your catalytic converter with a midpipe/highflow cat

3. catback (from the catalytic converter to the tips. hence catback)
- a muffler is a part of the catback

Never fear, Jedi is here with is Cracker Jax box Secret Message Decoder Ring!

I THINK what you want to do is remove the actual mufflers from the catback so you end up with an exhuast that pretty much is just a straight pipe from the headers to the exhaust tips. (no mufflers in the mix)
If that's what you want, I think you'll need to cut out the muffler and reweld.

Just unbolt the entire pipe including the mufflers AFTER the catalytic converter.

You will also need to probably put a little turn-down on it as well. That exhaust gas gets extremely hot and I don't think you want to melt anything on your car.

No mufflers on a non-turbo car would be really loud.

My general approach to amplifying engine noise is best summed-up by an opera-singer analogy my old landlord made: people pay to hear her throat, not her ***. The muffler is there to keep it quiet when it's not supposed to be loud. Put a CAI on it and maybe a throttle-operated exhaust cutout, but don't ditch the muffler entirely.

I'm already getting dirty looks from people I drive past on the way to my house because my RPMs are twice as high as they expect, and at least where I live, driving around at 10pm with no muffler is the sort of stuff that gets the cops called on you over and over until you give up and move somewhere else. Hell, I got the cops called on me because I was sitting in my old car listening to my stereo in the parking lot near my house one night. Obviously I was planning to break into their houses to steal their TVs and rape their daughters, amirite?

All I'm saying is it's not worth the trouble of attracting that kind of attention except when you really want to, like when you stomp the gas on the freeway.
