Can you put any 6 disc changer in a rx-8 or does it have to be the stock 6 disc changer becuz i have a single cd player and i want a 6 disc changer. please help.

I purchased an OEM RX-8 6 CD changer on eBay to replace the single disc changer on my 8. The entire unit pulls out of the dash. The unit includes not only the radio, but has controls for fans, heat, A/C, etc. It would be pretty hard to replace with anything other than an OEM.

Fairly easy install. Remove gear shift cover and ash tray. If memory serves correct, four phillips screws hold the unit to the dash. Take time and pull unit forward. Disconnect accessible pig tail connects and unit will pull out futher. Continue until all connectors have been addressed. Pull unit out. Change out single disc changer for 6 disc unit in the chassis. Install in reverse order. Simple hand tools and about an hours work is all it takes.

The radio has a connector on the back that allows hooking up a trunk-mounted six disc changer. The changer and connection kit is available at your dealer for a stupid amount of money or from www.crutchfield.com for a reasonable cost.

 

just find an OEM 6 disc and swap the units. It'll work just fine.

Trunk mounted changers are junk. Who wants to get out of their car to change a damn cd?
