(Another) Prospective Rx-8 Buyer
Hey all- I'm new to the boards but have been reading so many posts instead of working for the past few days... I've gotten a lot of questions answered already through other posts, so I'll try not to duplicate any questions. As I have a limited budget, I can't afford a new '05 white 8, which i would love- so I'm looking at a used 6spd with a few thousand miles. apparently, the '03's have a lot of bugs, so i'd like to find an '04. my question is, do you anticipate a price reduction when the '05s come out? i'm dying for this car, but if i can save a few g's i would think that's worth the wait. also, any ideas on when the 05s come out?
does mostly everyone use their 8 as a daily driver? i know the mileage is the main (possibly only) complaint, but aside from that, are there any cons to driving it daily? (i don't think i'd have the heart to let a whole day pass without being behind that wheel anyway). thanks for any responses, i feel like i'm forgetting some questions i was mulling over, but these are the most prominent at the moment. thanks again!

Zoso,
Daily driver here. A fine car for everyday use.
There were a few relatively minor issues with the 2004 model, all of which were fixed by warranty-covered tweaks (such as a snap-in air conditioner controller unit and a software flash to control the air-gas mixture).
It's a terrific car.

No problems.....
Been 'daily driving' over a year now, in an '04 (no such thing as an '03) got 17000 miles on it. Drove every day thru the Canadian winter, (with snow tires, of course!) started well and never flooded.
Now that I've had a bit of warm weather, I will probably take it in to get the a/c fix, it seems to cycle too quickly, but otherwise it's the best car I've ever driven. :D

hum..... in this case i think u can still got a new 05. which u want. try to lease one. or.. find some dealer can give u a great deal. i bought my 04 with a great deal. it's out the door with the price under msrp about $1000. so .. if some dealer can't give u the deal. it doesn't mean u can't got that deal. try another one. i have had try 5 dealer. good luck man. hope u will got a white one. i love white too.

Right now the majority people selling RX8's on autotrader are asking about the same price you can buy them for new today!!! They must have bought a while back and paid closer to MSRP, and now expect to sell without losing much.
I'd love to buy used and save some $$$, but I'm not paying within $5K of what I could buy a new one for. Is that crazy of me?
I'm wondering if the market will be differen in about 3 months, or if I should just buy an 05 on the s-plan.

I can't predict the future, but the 04's are selling at or even slightly under dealer invoice. When the 05's come in, I don't see them selling that cheaply, add to it that the MSRP on the 05 and it's options are a few hundred more than the 04.
Given that there is basically no change, unless you need white, the 2004 is not a bad choice.

I've had minor issues, but nothing I did not expect from buying a first year car. The before mentioned issues have been addressed, and there are a couple I think are yet to be addressed (clutch blowouts and power steering ECM) In time all these issues will be taken care of and I will still have a "first run" RX-8!
