Another Pre-order Gift

I got another pre-order gift in the mail today. Came in a black package the shape of the RX-8 steering wheel. Contained a letter and some info from Mazda and the gift -- a bottle touch-up paint in my car's color. Nice little gift. I will take a few pics when the trick-or-treaters slow down.

Thanks Mazda -- keep the gifts coming. :D

How about making everyone's Christmas with a little ECU upgrade!

mikeb 10-31-2003 05:57 PM

I still havent got mine

brothervoodoo 10-31-2003 06:02 PM

Got mine too.. I was always a 1 week behind everyone else with pre-order gifts..

XK4 10-31-2003 09:16 PM

I don't think it's a pre-order gift. I got the touch-up paint and I did not pre-order my RX-8. I just bought one the dealer happened to have. I guess Mazda just liked me better. :D

Perhaps it's a repeat customer gift. This is my fourth Mazda ( an RX-7 and 3 Miata's ).

miata2rx8 10-31-2003 09:32 PM

I got mine about a month ago, but I am a repeat buyer and a preorderer!

LOL! Me too. I was promised some goodies after more stuff came in, including the RX-8 cap, but so far, nada.

myrx8 11-01-2003 08:58 PM

Another present,

I haven't even got my maintenance card yet.

What else have owners been getting that I haven't?

mikeb 11-01-2003 09:19 PM

RX-GR8 11-01-2003 09:22 PM

no I didn't preorder so maybe thats it

I remember someone on the forum saying mazda was giving us something special for keeping the car.

WHAT???

TreknMazda 11-02-2003 10:13 AM

I actually considered it a post order gift when I posted pictures a month ago. Got my RX-8 in July and the 'gift' came the first week of October. I'm guessing these are sent out to new owners the first week of the 3rd month after they get the car. It's PR and marketing for the dealership's service department. And the accessory brochure is there for you to order from the parts department, too.

I suspect that dealerships have to either opt in or pay for this 'gift' which would explain why some have not received it. Unless of course, you have had your RX-8 for less than 3 months.

myrx8 11-02-2003 02:28 PM

I think I may call my dealer

aussie77 11-03-2003 03:09 PM

I got my touch-up paint today. I wasn't a pre-order, nor am I a repeat customer (although I probably will be in the future).

myrx8 11-03-2003 03:18 PM

I am starting to feel bad...

Shocka 11-03-2003 08:58 PM

I got mine today. Same day I turned in my RX-8... I don't think Mazda is very "integrated". So anyone want a bottle of Titanium touch-up paint? When I buy my 2005 next year it will probably be sunshine silver instead

First one to reply, I'll send it to free...

Steven

p.s. Dealer said he'd give me $1000 off any of the *45* he had in stock. I said I'd see him in the spring - I'm not making payments on a car that will sit in the garage all winter...

billyzinc 11-03-2003 09:39 PM

my salesman said that it was a gift from mazda corporate for returning the sales satisfaction survey.

RenesisPower 11-03-2003 09:46 PM

I have got nothing but surveys from Mazda. Forget the free gifts but stop the surveys. They sent me one to rate the dealership and salesman, two more for a service visit and a fourth for the second service visit.

Audi kept sending me free gifts (even after I sold the TT), tire pressure gauge, flash light and a keychain. It is a nice gesture and makes for loyal customers.

sandiegorx8 11-03-2003 10:14 PM

I didn't pre order but I did get that package today. I was excited as I thought it was my rotary accents but no joy. Touch up paint and some brochures. Pretty cool that they do that though. I've used the free service once and it was smooth and very professional. I'm still extremely satisfied with my 8 and the service Mazda is giving me. Makes me feel more special... as if having the 8 wasn't enough.

RX-GR8 11-03-2003 10:41 PM

didnt receive the touch up paint yet. just ordered my strakes from trussville should be here this week so the touch up paint can wait.

RenesisPower 11-03-2003 10:43 PM

I hope the touch up paint Mazda is sending matches your car's color.

Just kidding ! I am jealous since I've got nothing from them yet.

mamccubbin 11-03-2003 11:03 PM

All I got from my dealer was grief for not filling out the survey with all perfect marks. I marked them down for a few little things, mainly their lack of product knowledge. My salesman, who didn't really do much at all, explained that if they get less than 98 out of 100, the salesman doesn't get paid. He really seamed to lay the guilt trip on me. Oh well. Should have made that clear when I bought the car.

i gave my dealer way less than perfect marks. one reason is they had one of their car jockeys drive my ordered car 25 miles from 1 dealership to their other dealership without telling me until i saw the speedometer verification form. they never called me to complain about the low scores though.

mamccubbin 11-03-2003 11:43 PM

My dealer didn't actually call to tell me about the poor marks I gave them. I actually walked into the dealership to drop the car off for a new oil pan. The sales guy saw me pull up and headed right for the door to "greet" me. The first thing he did was ask me everything was alright with the car. I told him I was happy. Then he went told me that he wasn't getting paid because of the poor survey. I explained why I gave them the scores I did, but he still tried to make me feel guilty.

i doubt he didnt get paid.

mamccubbin 11-04-2003 01:30 AM

I am not sure whether he got paid or not. He claims he didn't, and I have heard in the past that car sales commisions are contingent upon surveys. And not just Mazda, but at least Volkswagen and Nissan.

Shocka 11-04-2003 08:25 AM

I find it hard to believe that they would not pay the employee because of a survey. surveys are random, depend on moods and are opinionated.

If an employee does not know about a car, its the companies fault they should provide the training that is needed. Personally I believe every employee should have to attend a class, which would detail a model, for each car.

RXhusker 11-04-2003 08:40 AM

My salesperson said that their incentive is based on the survey score (not the actual commision on the sale) and that the incentive potential is larger than commission -- in other words -- they depend on the incentive to actually make any money.

I received great service during the pre-order sales and purchase process so I gave perfect scores on all items.

RenesisPower 11-04-2003 09:16 AM

"Not getting paid" is a little confusing. They do get a commission when they sold us the cars. The survey guarantees them a bonus if all the marks are high.

So, many dealers instead of providing product knowledge and great service, try to rig the survey so they get a good score and make extra money.

offdaheeze 11-05-2003 11:07 AM

Free touch up paint

Did anyone else receive touch up paint in the mail from their dealer, it came in a steering wheel shaped box. Pretty cool as I was about to go purchase some.

mikeb 11-05-2003 02:16 PM

no, I never got that sterling wheel with paint
I'm gonna call my dealer
I wanted that damn touch up paint

IGOZMZM 11-07-2003 03:03 AM

This is a "Welcome Package" they now give these to all new owners of Mazda vehicles (or at least most). I got one when I bought my '01 Miata, and when I went in to purchase some accessories including some paint, they acted like I would get some from Mazda for sure, but I ordered some anyways, so now I can paint up a storm........ damn I hope I never have to though.

Note: the Welcome Package comes in different boxes for different vehicles.

RX-MEN-8 11-07-2003 12:31 PM

Just got my touch up paint yesterday... nice "touch" .. (by Mazda)

Wasy 11-07-2003 01:52 PM

A got a free oil change from the dealership (nice, thanks), but I haven't got so much as a magazine from the Mazda organization. (I did get my $500.00 card but that is a different category from "gift".) This is my 7th Mazda so there is nothing going on here to do with reorders!

Astor 11-07-2003 02:08 PM

Well I wasn't preorder, and didn't fill out the survey, never bought a mazda before, still got the little steering wheel with the touch up paint. I also received a letter entitling me to a free oil change. Now where is my complimentary MS Spoiler? (damn those are high)

eccles 11-07-2003 04:00 PM

In the past, we've always received a free bottle of touchup paint and an oil change as a thankyou for filling out the customer satisfaction survey after taking delivery of our new Mazdas. I suspect that this is the same situation, but they've decided to put the paint in a fancy package. :)

RenesisPower 11-07-2003 07:59 PM

I am in the category whom have received NOTHING from Mazda so far. I wish they would be consistent and send everybody the same things.

With my luck I will get blue touch up paint (my car is velocity red).

:D

IGOZMZM 11-07-2003 08:57 PM

Also I should point out that the offical "Customer Satisfaction Survey" from Mazda NAO came in the Welcome Package. So this can't be related to filling that out. Any survey you got up to this point in time most likely came directly from the dealership and goes back to the dealership for their own internal survey. The offical Mazda survey is taken on the web at www.mazdawelcome.com and you put in the ID that came in the letter in the steering wheel box.

RenesisPower 11-07-2003 09:00 PM

Why do I feel like I am missing a lot?

RX-Nut 11-14-2003 07:48 PM

Weird... just got mine today. Didnt expect it. I love getting unexpected gifts.. heehee

Q: How can you tell a car salesman is lying?

A: His lips are moving...

:D

My guess is they get some kind of a bonus or spiff for perfect marks on the survey; if you ding them a few points, they don't get paid that bonus, but they still make their regular commission on the sale of the car.

[edit: D'OHH! I should have read the entire thread before replying... :)]

Of course, there's no way any salesman that lies to me is going to get perfect marks on a survey... Like the one who tried to tell me that my trade-in needed a new clutch (it didn't) and so he could only give me $3000 below wholesale for it. :D

RenesisPower 11-15-2003 11:55 PM

I got a survey from JD Powers today for initial quality. It was about eight pages and 120 questions.

They included a one dollar bill as appreciation for my time. It took about 30 minutes to complete it, that makes it $2/hour, way below minimum wage. Just kidding !

Wow, now there's some great ammunition!

"If you'll sell me this RX-8 at $400 over invoice, I'll give you a perfect score on the survey."

:D

Just wanted to confirm my suspicions that this paint is sent when you return your customer satisfaction survey. I forgot to send mine in, and found it under a pile of papers a couple of weeks ago. I mailed it, and last week my touchup paint arrived in the mail in its little plastic steering wheel.

Given that I returned the car back in October, this could only have been triggered by the receipt of my survey form.
