Another great reason for owning an RX-8 -Insurance
Another great reason for owning an RX-8 -Insurance
As an insurance agent in Florida, I know the difference in premiums for these cars. (obviously the driver is big factor in the premium) In some cases these cars can cost $550 - $750 per year more to insure. If you do the math, it can work out to be between $50 - $60 more per month!
Long Live the 8!!
According to MSN Money:
Most expensive models to insure
1 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
2 Mercedes CL-Class

4 Subaru Impreza WRX

6 Lexus IS 300

8 Acura RSX
9 Nissan 350z

Biggest Factors that determine premiums are:
1. Age
2. Credit
3. Location
4. Driving Record
5. Vehicle
To a smaller degree:
6. Homeownership
7. Single/Married (Married less expensive) - insert joke here....
8. No lapse in insurance coverage
$1700 is a lot but not too far fetched.......the average premium in South Florida I would say is about $1K/6 months.
New Yorker makes a good point about the fuel, damn this machine is thirsty!!

You know when I asked about my insurance change if I wanted to cover a brand new 2006 BMW 325 AND got my hands on a 1993 Lexus ES, they told me my insurance would go down from what I was paying for my RX-8...
I guess the RX-8 is a sports car vs the BMW/Lexus are sedans, but still... I was surprised.

Ike knows of Evo owners paying more for insurance than many of you are probably paying for a 60 mo car payment. Ike doesn't know how young people own Evos... Luckily Ike only pay $85 a month and the only non exotic Ike could own that would cost more to insure would be a Boxster S. But, once you get to a certain age and status with insurance there's not a big difference in rates when it comes to cars. If Ike drove an RX-8 Ike would probably save $15 a month at most <Ike twirls his finger>

I am paying about 1.8k for the year in a 9 month payment plan. Been driving for about 3 years, last year I would of paid 3.2k for the year if not for the fact I got the 8 about 5 months into my payment plan. MA in general is pretty high and there isnt many Insurance Companies so competition is well not there. We dont have most of those Insurance Companies you see on TV.
Mine went up on my six month renewal. Apparently RX-8s got re-rated as a sports car now.
At least that's what the insurange guy said when I couldn't find any reason for it otherwise and the rating symbols had changed.

I pay approximately $164 a month with State Farm. Only up $26 from what I paid with my '06 Scion xA.
EDIT:
Status: single, aged twenty-one, 732 credit rating.
Points: Zero
Cars: 2006 RX8
Company: State Farm
Premium: $1970 @ Year (full coverage)
