Angry Almost hit a dog going 65 in the 8.

I don't like it when people let their dogs roam in the yard. I was traveling down the road at 65MPH with the cruise control on. All of a sudden a dog starts to run out from behind a big brick mail box. It scared me half to death. I've already hit one dog in my 8, but it was a lot smaller. I am sick of people pets running out in the road. Its okay if you have a truck, but the 8 is so low to the ground. gah.

I know how you feel. I was with my friend in his explorer one day and this gorgeous yellow lab darts out infront of it. We run over it and I see it spinning around on its side in my friends rearview mirror. We stopped and I ran to check to see if the dog was still alive cuz we were pretty sure it was dead. As I was running to it, its tail was sticking straight up and when I got up to him/her she suddenly put her head up. My friend called the SPCA and they came and resued the dog. Apparently we ran over the dogs hip area and broke its legs. Poor doggy

65 mph in a residential area? I'm all for speeding but it's not cool in a residential area, imagine if it was a little kid.

Yeah, I was thinking 65 in a residential was a bit over the top...especially with cruise. Though, back home we have roads where the limit is 55 and there are houses right up against the street, so I can't really say he was wrong. I tend to keep cruise off in situations like that because I have a tendency to relax after I set cruise, so I just keep it off so I don't lose focus.

Nah, The speed limit on the road is 65. Its called HWY 171. The road is 2 lanes on each side with a ditch in the middle. The houses on the road are set far back from the road (Maybe an acre). The mail boxes are at the street to make it easier for the post office. Remember I live in Louisiana. Our interstates are mostly 70 and the majority of other roads round town are 40 to 55. Highway type roads are 55 to 65. My dad lives in MA and it seems like their interstate are 55. Our interstates are small too. Usually 2 lanes, but there are some spots that are 3, but they don't last more than 5 miles, 10 miles max.

Yeah, I figured if you were going 65 if was probably similar to the places we have out in the boonies of Sarasota...Though, one helpful tip is to turn the cruise off any time you're in a residential or congested area just in case something happens - it'll keep you a little sharper and prevent complacency.

Oh, you live in boonie land, still wouldn't recommend driving with cruise on though. I have only used cruise on my car once and took it right off because it just felt dangerous.

Although I did set cruise on with my old car for an extended period of time, I was just young and naive, had it at 100 for about 200+ miles. :D

Should I mention that an acre is area, not distance, or does someone else want to do it.

... yes, but the houses aren't like what you are thinking. They are very spaced out and a!most each one has an acre of land for the front yard. My friends house has 13 acres behind and three up front. Its not considered residential because its not in any town or city, just in the parish. The road next to my old house had a speed limit of 60 and we never let the cat out because lots of trucks go by. You can even feel them in your house, they make everything rattle.

Ive killed a dog in my 8. Im in the Uk going about 70 on the motorway when this dog stepped out from the central reservation about 50yards in front of me. The central reservation was overgrown with long grass and as it was only a small dog you couldnt see it. It had no chance. The motoway was busy so couldnt swerve or brake hard. The dog did about £200 worth of damaged, needed a new splash guard (i think thats what it was called) under the front bumber and the wheel arch.

And the playing children and pets population must be quite low.

My grandparents live out in the country by a paved road, cars roar by their place all the time. Very easy for a dog it dissapear behind a mailbox or clump of grass or a ditch. You just don't expect it becasue theres nothing around but a few houses set far back off the road. Have had the same thing happen to me, clear open road nothing around then an animal jumps out of a ditch and aaaahhhhhhhhhhh bam wack thump thump, what the heck was that?!?

With all the stuff he runs over or into I honestly start to doubt his stories. Seems more like a fictional "how I wrecked my 8 today" show.
