I just want to see what the majority of the problem has been when u guys took ur car in...so i can fix mine myself

 

good luck. mine came on and mazda had my car for 3 days and they said they checked for gas leaks and vaccum leaks but in the end they just reset computer to get the light off

 

Just reset it, if it comes back bring it in to the dealer, if not don't worry about it.

 

how do you reset it with dealership

 

The dealer said my light was due to the gas cap not being seated properly.

In a related note, I'm getting a new oil pan installed on Monday.

I should have done this with my Tiburon. It cost me $70!

I went (Car just out of warranty) they spent 3 hours trying to find the problem, cleared the code and said, sorry it will come back, we can't fix it. It NEVER EVER returned.

Just reset it, if it doesn't come back it was probably the gas cap.

 

I had a check engine light come on so I unplugged the battery for a couple minutes then plugged it back in. Light hasnt come back on. I had to reset my DSC after I did this. Its real easy just start the engine..turn the wheel all the way to right then turn it all the way to the left then back to center and shut the ignition off. Start it again and it should be back to normal.

 

Same with me. This was a month ago. It hasnt come on since.

 

Mine is still on. The dealer told me not to worry about it unless the car was lurching, belching, etc. He said he has to wait until Mazda corrects the ECU problems.

 

Mine was on when I drove it home from the dealer. The sales guy said 'oh, I know what caused that, don't worry about it" so I didn't. It was still on when I started the car the next morning... so I turned the car off for about 5 secs, and started it again. Bingo... no light. Not a sign of it since.

I'd say, try the simplest fix first, if that works, Yay for you!

mine is still on after a few days w/ the chk engine light being on.....im about to go unhook the battery to reset the computer and ill tell you how it goes. btw i got my first ticket in 4 years, they gave me reckless driving for changing lanes multiple times w/out signaling. hopefully i can get that fixed! :P owell be careful out there... ALOT of people are watching u

 

I didn't tighten my fuel cap and it came on. I waited 3 days for it to turn off on it's own. Instead of going to the dealer I just disconnected the battery (Pressed the brake peddle after 30min?!?) the reconnected the battery. CEL is off and been off for 4 days. If it comes on again I guess I take a drive to the dealer.

 

That's very interesting about disconnecting the battery to reset the ecu. My dealer told me that under no circumstance was I to disconnect the battery or allow it to go dead as it would render the electronic power steering inopperative and the car would not start. He also said that if this happened, only a Mazda dealer could reset the power steering. He also said that only a Mazda dealer could replace the battery as other shops would not have the equipment to reset the power steering. I am glad that I appears that a battery failure will not result in a situation where it otherwise disables the car and requires that I go the dealer.

It's true the DCS/TCS will become inoperative after the battery is disconnected, but the manual tells you that and also gives the procedure for resetting it (which someone else also posted). So the dealer is spinning you a bit of a yarn...

hey guys, so you know i had my check engine light up come on after 1800 miles....i just went outside and unhooked the battery now the cel went off, thank god. now i have to reset the dsc and what not...so to those who has their check engine light i recommend you check ur fuel cap, oil, and try reseting ur computer by disc the battery for a bit. correct me if im wrong im not an expert...but hoping to save some people some time.

 

I had a bad gas cap. Didn't seal correctly.
