All Dials shoot round on starting

Hi all. Can someone tell me what does it mean when I start up my car, all my dials shoot round to max then back to min. The Oil, petrol, temp, rev, speedo dials all shoot round and back again as I am turning the key

Anyone know what this could mean, or have seen this before?

Thanks in advance

Lloyd

Are you talking about an RX8? As far as I know they dont do this.

They are many other cars and semi trucks that do this though. Not sure why they do it they just do.

I've seen the dials do something kind of like that when I tried to start the car with a nearly dead battery. Only when there was just enough power for the cluster but not to start the car.

As an FYI - there are many brands that when started, all the gauges sweep up and then back. Usually it's just a fancy system check and tool to make owners feel they are driving something special. No real purpose.

My 8 gets here on Friday from Delaware...I'm new to this forum, but not forums in general.

If your gauges sweep - then possibly the previous owner added something...are you all stock?

SO looking forward to my 8...08 Grand Touring, Sunlight Silver, 6831 miles, every options but Nav, and the bumper to bumper for 100k miles. All for 20k.

YEA!

Yea thats when it has happened to me in a previous car. My battery was low one time and it started and gauges swept like that. Also when my alternator failed on another car and the battery got drained while driving it did the exact same thing.

Like the others have said, I have seen it when there was a loose connection to the battery.

it happened to me yesterday after leaving my car outside all night at -25c. I always l warm up my car till it hits 1200 rpm and it took about 6 minutes then i drove for 8 more minutes and when i turned on about 8 hours aafter that short trip it happened so it must be the battery that was just about to die from the weather and the short distance of the trip didnt charge it

Before my battery crapped out on me, the car did this a couple of times.

The RX-8 doesn't have a speedo dial, you might want to check what car you have one more time! Lol!

For all it's worth, I experienced the same thing when I had a weak battery and also a loose battery connection.
