Airbag Recall Fix

Just thought I'd let everyone know what to expect with regards to the airbag replacement. Seems they just needed to replace a faulty cable on my 8. The dealership originally thought it would take 3/4's of the day (being this was the first one they had done) but it ended up only taking about 90-120 minutes. And yes, I did get a free rental out of it as well.

I think my dealer only took like 20 minutes. They billed it on the invoice at .20 hours. It could be that it took less than 15 min. now that I am looking at it? Who knows. I dropped it off at 9:30 am and it was done at lunch time. Good enough for me.

I'm scheduled for this Monday- they said to expect about 30 minutes or so. They had no problem doing once they had all the ones on the lot taken care of first, which they were doing this week.

BTW, if you haven't already- sign up for "MyMazda" at Mazdausa.com... you put in your VIN# and it keeps you updated on when you need to do maintenance, if there are any TSB's or recalls associated with your RX8. They had the airbag recall listed for my car the day the news broke last week- before most of the dealers knew. All you should need to do is print that out and walk into your dealer...

They've kept mine overnight to do the TSBs, as well as reflash the ECU and replace a leaky taillight.

I brought mine in for the first oil change and mentioned the air bag thingee to them. They did the whole job (oil and air bag wiring) in 30 minutes.

The dealer said it takes about 10 min to do the wiring.

And yes...they DID use 5-20 oil and DID replace the engine cover (made sure of that before I left the lot).

Cool Air bag fix.....

The actual fix for the air bag recall is tiny....

They drop the glovebox, undo a wiring connector, then put in a short extension piece between the two ends, and clip it back in place.

Ten minutes, tops.

In on Thursday night to drop off the 8 and pickup free loaner.

Service guy asked if I received the letter/s. No letters here ... and no problem. They completed both the airbag and damper work and had it ready for a rental/8 swap at lunch on Friday.

ok...I have not even heard of a recall for anything.....guess I have not read all the threads lately. Nothing in mail for me yet. Are all the Rx 8's on the list or just a certain batch? Pardon my ignorance.
