after looking

i have been looking at the RX8 since october and my mom finally took me to a dealership to sit in it and get a upclose look in it.
holy crap the car is beautiful up close in person pictures cant even describe how good it is, undortunately i was not able to listen to the engine, but i was extremely happy with sitting in the drivers seat. unfortunately i have to wait until the end of this year to see if my mom will get more interested in me getting it.

im only 15 but get my license this year, does anyone here see a problem with it being my first car? MT

as long as you're not going to:
1. Street race
2. Try and showoff
3. Underestimate a 200+hp rwd relatively light sports car
4. Street race
5. Try and showoff

and plan to:
1. Deal with some quirks of the car
2. Drive maturely

you should be okay :]

I've never driven MT and the RX8 is my first MT car. I bought it 4 days ago and the salesman gave me a couple of lessions. I'm getting the hang of it but i'm still stalling when I drive in the city.

^^^ sounds like a sure fire way to flood it ^^^

as a tip, use the ebrake on hills until you get the timing down good. Brake pads are cheaper than a clutch.

I had almost no experience with MT but all my cars have been, I've never been scared of it and I simply followed the plan and in time got use to it. Practice...practice...practice, but so you know even us seasoned MT people sometimes stall our cars...it happens.

A little tip, the reason why alot of people might flame you is because it's not "normal" to get a 26-32K car as their first car and frankly as a new parent EVEN if I had the money I would not get my kid such a car. So...you are spoiled, at least a little bit since your getting such a car.

Friend, most people (like me) paid for their first car on their own and it was more like a 3K car than a 32K car.

With that said, we don't know you so we don’t know if you REALLY are spoiled, but just make you to appreciate what your parents are doing for you and be responsible with it.

It's not "NORMAL" to get such a car as your first car, remember that and be grateful and everything will be fine.

Just an FYI...

What's with adults buying their child an rx8 for thier first car. Kinda insulting. Is the 8 a starter car for kiddies? Is it because it's afforable and looks cute? First they call it chick car,now it's a first buy teenage car for the well to do. Damn I hate the labels these people are making for our car. Pretty soon noone will take it seriously. Parents, stop buying your 16 year old the 8. It's not a toy. Stop ruining it's reputation as a serious sportscar. Everyone help stomp out parent buying the 8 for their kids NOW.

i give you 2 months before you smack up your 8.

a 15 year old about to get his license should always get a beater car, because of the attitude and lack of real driving experience. Grand Theft Auto Vice City and Gran Turismo doesn't count.

Saying you hate the way front wheel drive feels and that you only see yourself taking the 8 on the turns at the track is laughable. YOU ARE FIFTEEN.

Roaddemon, I agree with you. No offence to the 15 or 16 year olds out there, but you really need to know the "ways of the roads" and how cars drive...and your OWN ability. I as well, paid 2 or 3K on an old beater, and once I gained my confidence and abilities to drive got better, I moved up in the car chain. The 8's will be there in 2-3 years, so hone your skills first, but not on a ride such as the 8.

Yep, They should pass a law against that and anyone under 18 driving the 8. Make it law.

16 or 18...it doesn't matter. a new driver is a new driver. the lack of driving experience is there no matter what.

i'll never understand parents that buy their kids a 200+HP $25,000 sportscar and think it's OK. or in this case, 3/4 of a sports car...which doesn't matter, since they are merely making it possible for a young inexperienced driver to drive a car they have no business driving.

That should have been said from the start. Learn and hone up your skills, and when you do get the chance to drive the 8, you will appreciate all that we 8 owners apprciate.
Good Luck, my friend.

Hopefully this car is for your mom. When I was 15, I couldn't for the life of me understand why mom and dad wouldn't buy me a Mustang. That's all I wanted, and I was a good driver, uh sorta. 6 months later, I'm sittin on the side of the freeway after I rear ended some lady with my 1993 Nissan Altima. (Not a bad starter car when I look back now) The moral of the story is, the more invincible you think you are in a car at that age, the more likely you are going to get a big ol' speedin ticket, or get in a bad accident. The way I see it, any 15 year old guy that says he wont drive wreckless and show off to his friends in this car is a big FIBBER.

You have your whole life to have nice cars, you are in high school, worry about the ladies, and maybe even gettin into college.

You should practice driving a beater before you start driving the 8. Your mom can have fun till you turn 18.

You're not going to appreciate the 8 if it's going to be your first car. Drive a beater for a year, learn traffic sense and responsibility. You may think you have what it takes, but chances are you don't. You'll only understand later. I'd suggest just waiting until you're a senior in high school. I'm almost 18; I'm thankful I had to borrow my mom's civic for more than a year because it teaches the intangibles you can't describe. I've been into a bunch of close accidents, even though I consider myself the best driver out there . The fact of the matter is that other people in traffic are going to make mistakes and you have to learn how to read them before they happen, so that you can protect yourself and the car.

I'd be sorry for myself if I already had my 8 when I just got my license at 16.

I hope his mom reads some of this advice. I know if she is willing to buy the car for him, there is no way he is going to say no, no matter what we say. Honestly, what 15 year old would turn this car down if offered? Don't flame the kid too bad, we would have all taken it at his age too.

On a side note, what I said earlier is still true. You won't regret the decision to pass on this car in about 5 or so years. I'm just not sure any 15 year old guy would be able to heed that advice.

True, he'll probably end of with the 8 if it were up to him anyway.

I'm afraid to say that i'm 19 and own an 8, bought it myself after graduation. Well, like everyone said, drive a beater car, it'll really reall y help you out in the end considering that you're 15, unaware of the world of driving and the way things work. And also, the cops will be all over you! A young person driving an 8. Just try to take the advide of the forum because it'll only benefit you. I learned stick on a 92 miata when i was 16 and drove a 92 4runner for a good 2 years. Lastly, learning to handle a car takes time and it's easy even though you dont mean too, to go crazy especially on an rx8. I had too many friends die in car accidents because of the mentaility of "im invincible and nothing can hurt me" kind of thing while driving.
