also, you would like to point out that the window tint is too dark and it's below legal 35% of visibility, and that the car doesn't have the appearance package, if you don't know what it is I will show you pictures, if they don't have any documentation of previous maintenance

and at the end you want to point out that there is another car you want to test drive at some other dealership, and if you can leave you cell phone

Like the other person said, you won't like an AT. Also, too many miles. Be patient.

yeah, MT is way more fun if you ask me, and if your wife don't know how to drive it you could teach her

I wish, to me a automatic sports car is like a bicycle with training wheels. it just doensn't feel right. But she told me that if I buy a stick shift it will be JUST for me and she might as well not have a backup car for work. (I work from home :P)

I'm not that worried about it though, I just want an 8. Are all 8's suppose to come with the appearance package?

no, not all 8s come with that package but it sure looks better plus it cost a lot if you gonna buy it later

and the money is yours so you decide at the end if it's gonna be an AT or MT we are just trying to give you info on the car

the more you know the better you are equipped to fight at the dealership

Sorry it took a few minutes to reply, I was off looking at possible body kits >.< I've had some lackluster cars in my day, excited about having something I can love.

1. 88 Olds Delta 88 (beat a camaro in it racing though)
2. 98 Cherry Red Stepside S-10 with tinted windows, shaved, loved that truck (this was the year 99)

3. 2002 Chevy Cavalier (It was silver, I acutally put aftermarket decals triball on both sides, hit a deer with it)

4. 98 Dodge Dakota (bought it for a thousand and sold it for 1400 :P)

As you can see nothing to impressive, now the wife and I own a Neon. :p

Are these Mazda's expensive mechanically to have worked on? My dad is a pretty good mechanic, I wonder if he could even work on these types of motors since they are pretty unique (or so I understand)

Yeah I hear, BG, I'm torn as it stands. You've given good advice and I feel like I'm far better prepared instead of just going up there with stars in my eyes and just buying it without even looking it over or taking these things into consideration.

I feel about a million times more prepared and I really appreciate you taking the time to give me this advice.

well, the engine is under warranty 8years/100k miles and this car qualifies for the warranty but only 10k miles and you will be out. I do all my work on my car but when it comes to the engine I go to the dealer, but so far I havent had any problems as big as that.

Yeah but my situation is pretty grim. It'd be alot easier if I could get financing, there's alot of great 8's on here for 10-12k. I -LOVE- Gh8st's 8, it pretty much was the final nail in the coffin. He's been trying to sell it awhile, if I had 9,5 cash I'd try to get his. Eh since you've been so great at giving me advice on this 8 I'm buying later, whats your 8 like? Any mods, color..come on, spit out the details lol.

My thinking is....if this isnt exactly what you're looking for, why buy it and be unhappy? I personally would be concerned with a salvage title....that would tell me that it has had pretty significant damage. I'm just afraid you're going to get into something (out of desperation) and then be extremely disappointed in your purchase. Keep looking...the RIGHT one is out there for you...don't be in a hurry just to satisfy your need (want?) to own a RX8.

I know you said you'd run if an rx-8 had front in damage, but whats your thoughts on this one? They've lowered the price 1k since they put it up and I bet if I offered em 3k they'd take it..but it's alot of work. He says the only thing mechanically it needs he thinks is the front alignment.

I agree Shinka chick, I'm just afraid I'll never get financing for an rx-8 any other time and I doubt I"ll ever have 8, 9k (let alone 10-11k) cash sittin around to buy one outright. I'm more afraid of not having options..ya know?

I've had mine for over 3 years and I'm extremely happy with it. If I start writing about all the mods I've done to it, it will take all night. But once you get one I will be happy to discuss all of those in detail with you. All Im gonna say is that if you are expecting a great mileage from this car just because you see it says 1.3L engine you better not by it. I love everything else about it... Mine is blue and I told the dealer that I hate that color, although, I wouldn't buy anything else but blue lol I've got a very good deal on mine

AGAIN, don't buy the car right the way explore your options. I know you are exited and all but when you rush things, at the end you pay more. Take your time, you will get an 8.

about that one on Craigslist, I wouldn't mind buying it for 2k and selling all the parts on ebay, but not to fix

I do agree with BG-8....patience is the best thing here...you're in too big of a hurry to own an 8. The right one will come along....I am just afraid with this one there are alot of other "issues" that remain to be seen that will cost you later on. Its only April...other 8's are gonna show up soon....please don't rush into this and end up disappointed.

Thank you for the words of wisdom, I'll go test drive it today just to get to drive an 8 :p but yeah unless he shoots me a good deal I'm not getting it. The more we discussed it the more I think he's got to high of a price tag on it, even if its financed. I guess we'll see when I go out there in 3 hours. Shinka and BG-8 thanks for the great advice, I'll be back on to check this thread in about an hour (I keep lookin at pics of rx-8s, so I'm sure I'll be on here) but for now I haven't eaten in forever lol. Thanks for the advice again and I'll be back if you have anymore to add..

then I still don't understand why can't you get a 10k loan, but it could be the back economy

oh, and get used to not eating cause once you get the 8 you will need money for gas so you might have to cut on some expenses lol j/k

Just read through this exchange...

I think you should wait... these cars depreciate hard and you'll be able to find exactly what you're looking if you're patient.

That will give you time to do some more research on the car and figure out financing. Buying a car in a hurry is a sure-fire way to spend too much.

Also, not any of my business... but I'd talk with the wife about driving stick. Auto owners get ragged on all the time around, but the 04 and 05 Auto's had a 4 port engine, not a 6 port "high power" engine that comes in the Manuals. So you're getting less revs and less horsepower for only slightly more torque in the lower rpms. . . To drive the 8 properly is going to take some "work" as your wife puts its.

'04 and '05s have some issues that weren't fixed until '06. I can post some more things to inspect and watch out for if you'd like, but this is the wrong color, wrong trans, salvage title. . . the only thing that is right about this car is the price, and its not even that good.

And I think $4900 for a 350z on craigslist is a scam... if not, go buy that, then sell it for 10-12k and pay cash for the 8 you want.

You know...I remember years ago, I found an 86 RX7, GSL-SE...was the car I'd always dreamed of. I test drove it and wanted it but wanted a friend to look at it first because there was something "just not right"....the dealership (if you can call it that, buy here pay here deal) wouldn't let me take it to my friend to examine....so my friend and I went there after the place closed...this car also had a salvage title and he found out that it was a clipped car. I am so happy I didn't let my pure determination to own "the car I'd always dreamed of" put a bad taste in my mouth. I would have been pissed and probably broke after paying for that car. Now, all these years later, the RIGHT one appeared in front of me...I'm happy every day I get to drive it and finally have what I'd always dreamed of owning~ Patience is a virtue and I don't always display it....
