advice
I just join this forum, because I am thinking of buying an RX8. I see that most of you already own one. I will like to ask if you are happy with the purchase and if you will have done something different? Did any of you have to pay more than the sticker price? Are there enough aftermarket accessories? Are the factory accessories enough? Should I wait for the 2005 model? All your advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
PS: I presently own a '01 PT Cruiser LE w/ several dealer and aftermarket accessories and just purchase a '03 VW Passat GLS.

What the heck, round out your car barn with an RX 8. Isn't it a cool looking car? Many people like the car on here. You'll read about smelly exhaust and hot feet and gas mileage and horsepower and all sorts of wild things. When it gets down to it though, it is a great car. This site and its postings have gone from the "wow just got my 8!" to "took my dash apart tonight" it is really informative. You will like the car. SO what color are you wanting?
paid MSRP Done something different? No - I waited for this car. Personally I think that Mazda spent a lot of time already on it.
They may have service campaigns but I doubt they will change it that much. Magazines et al are saying that they are working on other models and a turbo Miata. They also want a very reliable rotary (NA) I look for the Miata to become what the RX7 was with the RX8 chassis somehow. MO
Considered:
350Z
G35
G35 Coupe
Honda S2000
BMW 3 series

It depends what you want.
i am about to take delivery of an august build RX8. I expect there will be a few niggles with it as with any brand new car.
I have bought a few brand new models before. Including the landrover freelander (avoid english cars if possible) and they have no end of small problems which is normal in the first year of production.
the MX5 on the other hand also had a few niggles in the first year of production but they messed it up a little on the 1992-1993 update (too much weight, etc) and it did not have all the qualities of the series 1. There is no guarantee that the 2005 will be a better car except maybe built quality.
On the other hand, you get to drive something that is rare on the roads.
As for me, I could not bear to wait..

I like the winning blue metallic, but it only comes with black leather which I do not want, so I will consider the titanium grey metallic w/brown leather, which I really like a lot.

This is worth like $70+ grand in cars u have and currently purchasing. You could of gotten an M3,new M6 or a Vanguish and so on...
Since u already have a car. Doesnt hurt to wait another year. Mazda might add another version to the rx-8 line up. Also, the skyline and rumored supra is suppose to come out in 2005 or early 2006.

I know that once I did a test drive, I couldnt wait to have it. I read up on everything I could fine about the car, the engine and the history of it all. Since I was pretty much buying a car way back in may, I had plenty of time to do my research. I found an engine design that really apeals to me just for it's design. I really beleive that with proper service and no major design flaws this engine will last for a very long time. Look at some of those 200K+ mile RX-7's that are still out there racing a bit. I love the look of the car and the functionality of it. Suits me perfectly to have 4 seats for the ocasion to go out with friends, and I really enjoy driving teh car around town. I have been somewhat luck it seems in that as my mileage goes bye, the car is improving. Mileage, HP, general feel of the car have all gotten better. Also I am getting used to it's style of behaving and still love it.
Anyway, I love the car and would say go for it (since I already have). It's damn fun.
