Additive Opinion.

What do you guys think about BG 44K? My Well Trusted Mazda Mechanic in my area, recommends me to add it in my gas tank every 6 months.

Cole33 12-27-2010 10:56 PM

It can't hurt to run one on occasion. Running a fuel pump cleaner or something through on the occasional basis isn't a bad idea. I don't know if I would add anything to my gas on a regular basis though. Unless you want to start pre-mixing that is.

invasion08 12-28-2010 08:04 AM

I add BG44K every 10k miles or so

atruerx8racer 12-28-2010 12:09 PM

cool.

Jedi54 12-28-2010 12:30 PM

I've used it in the past, supposed to be good stuff.

jasonrxeight 12-28-2010 01:52 PM

with so many additives in the gas nowadays, your basically cleaning your engine everyday.

9krpmrx8 12-28-2010 01:56 PM

BG44k is supposed to be great stuff. But a guy I know who worked in the oil and gas manufacturing business for 30+ years told me Techron is as good as it gets in terms of fuel cleaners.

I premix pretty heavy but every 6 month or so I run a tank with just Techron to clean things out. But I have been meaning to use BG44k, Grungepup has been using it for the life of his car and swears by it.

cornholio135 12-28-2010 02:05 PM

BG44K is the shitz... I run it in both 8s every other month...

9krpmrx8 12-28-2010 02:08 PM

So, there you have it. BG44k is SARX approved:lol:

pdxhak 12-28-2010 02:21 PM

Is this stuff really needed with today's gas and a good spirited drive on the weekends?

Who knows. If you ask five experts and you will get five different answers.

DocBeech 12-28-2010 02:40 PM

everyone on heres an expert:P but you can just buy chevron that already has a tiny amount of techron in it. Or there is seafoam. Or there is racing rotary engine cleaner. You have many a options.

9krpmrx8 12-28-2010 02:43 PM

Yep, and Chevron/Texaco are one in the same now.

pdxhak 12-28-2010 02:44 PM

I only use Chevron.

DocBeech 12-28-2010 02:50 PM

shell/texaco/chevron are all the same when it comes to cleaning engines, and in fact a lot of companies have engine cleaner in the fuel to kill off some of the water that builds up from the stupid ethanol :(

EDZRIDE 12-28-2010 03:03 PM

Great stuff!

I put a bottle of fuel cleaner in my 13 yo Jeep with 130k on the clock and I felt no difference at all. normal gas has enough cleaner in them already just like engine oil these days.
I use BP tho cuz thats whats popular in mid-west.:wiggle:

Old Rotor 12-28-2010 03:20 PM

I have used all three and the best value IMO is Sea foam(half the price of BG44K) and better then Techron.

I perfer Seafoam b/c its not only a cleaner but also a fuel stabilizer as I dont drive my rx8 very often, and my motorcycle.:wiggle:

DocBeech 12-28-2010 03:29 PM

both chevron and shell are nitrogen based additives/cleaners. It wouldn't surprise me if there wasn't much of a difference at all. Heres your list of top tier fuels you can buy, all of which... well you can read it for yourself lol.

actually, Phillips 66 kinda sucks around here.

DocBeech 12-28-2010 03:37 PM

The only ones I have seen around here are the truck stops, and much like the lowes they border the edge of dallas. This allows them to be ethanol free which is amazing. You get free air for your tires, bays to wash your car in, and ethanol free fuel which is like .75 a gallon cheaper than it is in town.

Plus how can you beat truck stop food lol. Never constipated after eating it! lol

Yeah the few Phillips 66's around here are shit holes so I doubt that they have nice clean gas. I read an article recently about how a lot of the dirt that gets into your tank is actually from the pump itself, and that some well kept stations actually have routine maintenance that includes actually cleaning the pump handles and outlets. It makes sense though, they are out in the open exposed to dust storms, etc.

I guess I will have to take a closer look next time I fill up.

damn, maybe I should wipe the nozzle next time. I always shake the remained gas in the nozzle out before using it, who knows it could be just water.

Yeah I was sitting in my dads friends automotive shop and he had some automotive industry magazine and they had a write up about it. I tried to find it online but couldn't. I should have asked him for the magazine.
