Talking Accessories List

I called my dealer to add the NAV to my order and they asked if I wanted to add any port-installed accessories. This is the list and pricing they gave me (they also upgraded my pre-order slot from 3rd allocation to 1st!! I'm so stoked!):

=====================
2AP APPEARANCE
FRONT AIR DAM
REAR ARROW FLARES
SIDE ARROW FLARES

$970
--------------------------------
CASSETTE PLAYER $200
--------------------------------
ROTARY ACCENT PACKAAGE
POLISHED FRONT AND REAR ROTORS
(they don't have a description or picture of this so they weren't sure what it was)

$139
--------------------------------
IN-DASH 6 DISK CD CHANGER $500
(they weren't sure if this is going to come with the GT Performace Package or not, they say if I added this accessory and the car comes with 6-disc CD that they would, of course, delete it.)
--------------------------------
CARGO NET $40
--------------------------------
FRONT/REAR SPLASH GUARDS $170
DOESNT WORK WITH THE 2AP PACKAGE {choose one or the other}
--------------------------------
MOON ROOF DEFLECTOR $45
--------------------------------
REAR WING SPOILER $355
--------------------------------
SPARE TIRE KIT $395
(I'm expecting - for this price - to get a full spare (and someone to change it out for me) - they weren't sure exactly if it was a temporary tire or a full, but it's quite expensive)

Tripwire... considering you are in Atlanta and I am in Savannah, that delivery date is giving me considerable hope for an earlier delivery. As we already know the 8's will be entering in Jacksonville, FL.... just 2hrs away from me. Fingers crossed anyway... I'll believe it when I see it.

arrow, aero... douh! I was typing with the cellphone to my head while she was giving me the parts list.

They also told me they would have a "dealer showroom" RX-8 coming in sometime in April - they received confirmation of that today!!! they were going to call me when it comes in for a test drive. So I'm feeling good about the delivery dates.

not happy with my choices. no boot lip, no start button. ugh. The aero look horrible. And where are those things for the front wheel vents? the X accents? The only things worth while IMO are the cd changer and the rotor accents. And the CD changer is robbery at $500

wow good news!!

1. if ur in atlanta and getting delivery in 1st week of may then i imagine here in southern ca we would get them earlier but if not, at least at the same time.

2. are these options to be installed at the factory, at the port, or at the dealer?

3. for those thinking that the $970 for the kit is expensive, keep in mind that that it includes painting and installaltion

It's nice that they are offering more options, but I don't really see anything I would be interested in. As far as the looks department, I think the RX-8 looks perfect the way it is. The other add-ons don't really appeal to me either except for maybe the cargo net, but I can always get that afterwards since I have a credit with the parts department at my Mazda dealer.

Options added to "Build Your RX-8" page

For those who haven't seen them yet, the above options are listed now on the Build Your RX-8 feature on the Mazda RX-8 website. The prices are as quoted above, zero cost items are "non-moonroof vehicle", carpet floor mats, and wheel locks.
The $500 for the 6CD is enough to keep me a single-CD car. I'm sure down the road an aftermarket will be out for considerably less - although the advantage is that in theory at the port they'll be 'experts' at installation of these things and your car should be less likely damaged by those doing the installation.

shkeller55, I'm going through Rick Case Mazda in Gwinnett, working with Kelly - she's great.

tribal azn2, they told me everything was port-installed and that these are items that could be purchased in the future and installed at the dealership.

I'll be waiting to find that 6-disc CD changer "NIB" on eBay for half the price in about 6 months.

If all you are looking for is the slot-loaded 6 disk changer installed with the rest of the Bose system, then don't expect an aftermarket version. You'll have to replace the whole head unit system if you are going aftermarket.

accessories

here is the complete list, without prices , the rotary accents include a cap to replace the "M" logo in the center of the wheels.

These are all of the non factory installed options. they will be installed at the port or the dealer.

Audio:

CD/MP3 player
6-disc CD Changer
Mini-Disc player(maybe changer)

Body/Interior:

Silver strakes for the nose and gills like the X-men car
Brushed metal exhaust pipe bezels
Front air dam, side and rear skirt. Air dam is nice!
Side skirt(more like a moulding on the dogleg in front of rear wheels
Brushed aluminum scuff plates
Loop-type rear wing spoiler(think of Eclipse only less tall)
18" OZ wheels
RR rotary foglight bezel
front fogs
Brushed-look grille trim
Satin and Chrome Gas Door lids
Rotary-shaped shift **** for the automatic
Brushed custom rotor-type centercaps to replace the M logo
Brushed console vent rings and trim
And Premium floormats(other than factory)

I'd think I would have to replace the entire head unit. Do you happen to know when they might have pics posted on their website or brochures at the dealer so we can get a visual idea of what these add to the car? I'm personally thinking cargo net and maybe brushed fuel filler door. Is the loop type spoiler the one pictured on the black car at the top of this thread? Your list didn't mention a few things like the cass player, spare tire kit, wind deflector - are those dealer added as opposed to port added? Anyone have specs on the spare tire kit - full size/donut - hardware and mounting somewhere. Would esp like to see pics of that. Seems like the Jap or UK site and/or forum and/or mag showed a pic of the spare mounted tilting high on front side at the 'front' of the trunk in the center just behind the back seats.

"do you happen to know when they might have pics posted on their website or brochures at the dealer so we can get a visual idea of what these add to the car?"

no about the site but brochures should be available soon. most of these items have already be seen in pics available on this site. look at that brochure from japan.

"Is the loop type spoiler the one pictured on the black car at the top of this thread?"

yes

"Your list didn't mention a few things like the cass player, spare tire kit, wind deflector - are those dealer added as opposed to port added?"
my understanding was that the cassete player is standard. something must have changed. sorry about missing the spare tire and mounting brackets. my cut and paste must have missed. it is similar to what has been mentioned for japan. the wind deflector i am not sure about. there was a small mention of it awhile ago but i thought it was dropped so left it out. i will check.

no pic of the oz wheels yet.

dang what's with all the added stuff on the build and order site?!

I wanted some of these stuff when I pre-ordered! Now what's gonna happen since "my 8" is already being built?!

what's installed at port? I know my dealer would probably gouge me if I asked about adding stuff on...

aaaarrrgh..

these are not factory installed options. these are port or dealer installed accessories. they can be added at any time. i haven't been able to get onto the mazda site i suppose because of the rest of you generating too much traffic.

hehheehe yup, I'm whackin the site right now...

I meant what does installed at Port mean? I can guess installed at dealer.. But who wants to do that? Sometimes getting things done at the dealer is where they gouge you big time. Plus the wait time for repairs and such at the dealer can be crazy!

Hmm.. the Rotary and Appearance pacakge look appealing. I like the shiny rotors. I wonder if that includes the rear lip spoiler. Dont think I like the huge one.

What I dont get is why the wind deflector is extra.. that's rude.. wouldnt a moonroof warrant one as standard?

BTW...What's OZ rims?

port means it's done after it gets off a ship but before it gets to the dealer. so before you take possession.

oh and the wind deflector is fugly, that's why it's seperate

don't have a pic of the OZ wheels yet.

OZ is a wheel manufacturer. In Europe, they make excellent lightweight wheels used by the likes of Formula One and World Rally Championship teams. In the US, they're also starting to produce some heavier wheels aimed at the more-show-than-go market. I'm hoping that the optional OZ's for the RX-8 will be in the former category. www.ozwheels.com
