There is an CD player that can play MP3 formatted CDs. Check www.mazdaparts.com
Xenons (HIDs) is not offered in the base trim, but offered in the Sport, Touring, and GT trims.

There's also some Phat Noise system that dealers are offering. Seems pretty weak/pricey to me.

there isn't a hard drive option that I know of unless they're thinking of putting it in the new model, you can get an mp3 playing CD player and I believe that if you order it you also get a minidisc player along with it with no choice in the matter, at least that's what I've seen in the pictures of all consoles that say mp3 on them. I'll be going with that option when I get my 8 since I love my MP3s and I have minidiscs too... plus that way you have less CDs lying around to scratch

An even easier, but old school, way of doing this is getting the cassette player option, and using a 'tape converter' attachment that uses a dummy cassette case with a connector that plugs into a mini-jack (headphone jack) on your MP3 player. Voila. Instant MP3 capability, and you get to play all those tapes you like to listen to.

IRVINE, Calif. – Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) recently announced steps to make sure that drivers never miss a beat. Mazda, in a partnership with PhatNoise, is offering the PhatBox Digital Media Player as a dealer-installed accessory in all Mazda vehicles.

The PhatBox Digital Media Player integrates seamlessly with existing Mazda sound systems and will provide drivers with hundreds of hours of music without having to search through compact discs or flip radio stations. The PhatBox can be trunk-mounted and stores music on a removable 20-gigabyte hard drive that can be transferred between multiple PhatBox units.

The system is controlled by the existing CD changer controls on all Mazda radios, with an interface designed to make finding music simple. Using the radio panel screen, PhatBox displays artist and disc titles, and, for factory radios on the MAZDA3, MAZDA6, MX-5 Miata, and RX-8, offers voice-assisted browsing with an SSA (Simple Stereo Architecture)/Voice interface. This device allows drivers to utilize voice command music selection for nearly 3,500 song titles without ever taking their hands off the wheel.

INCORRECT - If you get the CD player that also plays mp3 formatted CD's, you do not automatically also get the MD Player. Each is a separate option. These are all dealer installed options. Hope that helps. BTW, I have the MD unit and love it since I am constantly recording DJ sets on my MD player.
