all cars depreciate unless you are buying something really high end. A car is an expense, not an investment. That applies to all cars, not just the RX8.

Any engine will make it to 100,000 miles. If you rag on it and don't take care of it, it will not last as long. Again, that applies to any car, not just an RX8.

I get more than 17mpg. You can too. It depends on how you drive it.

If you like the car and think it is for you, then by all means, you should buy it. It depends on what you need and want out of a car. figure that out, then decide which cars fit those needs.

Me, I wanted a sports car I could take to the track sometimes. I have two kids and needed a backseat for the occasional times i need the kids in my car. So a back seat was required. That eliminated the corvette, z3, 350z and a few others from my choice of car.

For the money, the RX8 was the best car I could find for going to the track, hauling me and my kids in comfort and safety, and it's cool as hell (at least I think it is). So i bought it.

I don't understand why people make an issue of this mpg thing at all. You are looking at a rotary powered sports car.

1) Realatively speaking, Rotary engines use up more oil and more gas. If you didn't know at least that much about the rotary engine you should stick to pistons and not go anywhere near a rotary.

2) Not even taking into account the rotary characteristics, since when was mpg an issue when buying a sports car???

3) If mpg was that big of a deciding factor, maybe you should look into more fuel economical cars.

17mpg-
I wish my rx-8 got 17 mpg .
Honsetly if you are sitting on the fence because of the mpg this is the wrong car for you .
Some have gotten more than than 17 other have gotten less ,the point is
go drive the car . Thats where you're true evaluation should be .
Then go test drive something else ,compare all the cars you drive then make a educated choice.

As far a depreciation --all cars depriciate once they are driven off the lot plain and simple .

Oh and honestly you should buy an extended warrenty on any new car, peace of mind goes a long way.

sorry for being blut
but if you nit-pik over something like est. gas mpg then im sure theirs a civic somewhere that might better suit you.

I was holding out for the 4-rotar solar/hydrogen cell/gasoline hybrid. Because gasoline is only used to prime the engine and start up you get like 2500 mpg with 1200hp but flooding may still be a problem. I heard Mazdaspeed will be releasing to North America as a 2004 and a 1/2 (as a 40th anniversary tribute to the Mustang) next month.
