Man, how fast was she backing up to do that kind of damage?? That's the worst kind of incident, where the other person was just totally ignorant. How can you not notice that Winning Blue?

OUCH!!! That just hurts to look. What's worse, you got hit by a soccer mom who probably "didn't see you" because she wasn't looking. There really oughta be a law...

I feel your pain. I, too, have a Winning Blue and got all upset this week because a member of my OWN family opened my wife's Van door into my RX-8. After months of being so particular as to where I park, I get nailed in my OWN driveway. But now I feel guilty. It is not near as bad as what you have to deal with. All my sympathy and regrets. On the positive side it can be fixed and there was no loss of life. My daughter's boyfriend was killed this Christmas rollerblading..puts everything into perspective!

I am truely sorry to hear about your accident. I have been there myself (with a previous car) and I know how much it hurts. I hope everything works out okay for you. I also hope they take away the woman's SUV and make here drive a K-Car Wagon for the rest of her life! My 8 is Winning Blue too. I will be on the look out now for giant SUV's since it appears likely that the drive will not be looking out for me!

Sorry man.

Consumer Reports did some work on blind spots for cars and suvs recently. Some of the larger suvs have rear blind spots of 50' or more, and that's if you're doing everything right - like turning your head AND checking the rear AND side view mirrors. Can pretty much guarantee that the person that did this damage didn't look at all. Didn't see usually means didn't look.

That damage looks eerily similar to the damage I took, a couple months ago. More than likely the rear door will have to be replaced. There's a lot of support doodads in there that my body shop said couldn't be repaired. My bill was a little over $3000 (well the insurance company's bill).

I had a putz back his pick-up truck into my front bumper after we stopped at a light. He said he couldn't see me. He left before the police came (I called the cops). He later gave a story that I hit him! You're lucky she confessed. I had no witnesses, so the bill for the bumper (1K) is on me.

OUCH!! I feel the pain for a fellow Winning Blue brethren. Hope everything goes well for you. Seriously, how do you miss a blue car? Imagine if there were little kids playing behind the truck!!

That's why everywhere I go (especially nowdays in the snow), I'm constantly on the horn letting people know where I am. It's surprising how many times I see people wanting to make a left while I'm coming and they're looking the other way. Needless to say they get a quick honk to prevent them from squishing me. I don't care if look like a jerk because it's MY car that's going to take the damage from a SUV. Heck, this morning a big *** Hummer got a good honking from me!

I guess that I should explain that better. 50 feet refers to the closest distance that the driver can see a 3' tall object behind the vehicle. The test was specifically designed to prove that young children are invisible around the rear (and front) of large suvs. Since the RX8 is taller than three feet, it would be a little more visible, but probably still invisible within a 25' range.

From the description of the children not being strapped in, this was no example of parental, driving or social responsibility.

i was right behind her when she hit me. the first point of contact from the collision is right behind the front wheel and goes all the way to the front of the rear wheel. she didn't speak hardly any english and was able to to get out if i thought the damage would be less then $500...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...she didn't want to have to pay her deductible. she then had her friend or husband that was with her call me up and ask me to wait to call the insurance companies and see if i can get it appraised first to see what the cost of dammage would be. needless to say both insurance companies were called taday and the claim has been made.

does anyone know though, if there are no witnesses and no police report what kind of ride i'm in for??? i just wnat my car fixed and since it wasn't my fault i don't want to pay for it.

AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!! sorry.

If they give you any crap at all tell them that you are contacting the police because the children weren't properly restrained at the time of the accident.

Agree 100%. It's amazing how oblivious people are to the lack of rear visibility out of many SUV's.

And how about when you're at a stop sign waiting to make a left and then some joker in an SUV pulls up on your right to make a right and completely blocks your view of traffic in that direction. Grrrrr, I hate SUV's!!! Sorry, I needed to vent - Mr. Ed's story real makes my blood boil. Good luck to you, sir!!!

It's the otherway roudn that bothers me, your example shouldn't really concern you since if the SUV isn't clear to turn right you DEFINATELY can't turn left.

Well, when I'm at a stop sign, I like to see all directions of traffic. If my view is blocked in any way, seems like that's a compromise in safety to me - remember if I can't see to the right, then traffic to the right can't see me. Obviously, I'm not going to move until traffic in both directions is clear and I have line of sight in both directions.

I've been driving since 1975 and, trust me, any loss in visibility is a loss in safety - look at Mr. Ed's situation.

I've seen too many accidents to make assumptions when it comes to safety.

Just my 2 cents.

I got hit when driver backed up. I filed police report. No witnesses. Driver later said I hit him. I lose. Mine's Winning Blue. Maybe rename it Invisible Blue?
