On and On

I had a 1987 RX-7...I know how the mileage sucks...I didn't buy it for an economy move...I bought it cuz i'm a sports car person...and now i'm 61 and I need a back seat and a car that is still comfortable. I have a late '05 with 11,000 miles that I bought NEW in November '06. I'm no stranger to the over and over complaints of poor MPG. I usually get the expected 200 miles (plus or minus a few) depending on how I drive and where. Recently I am experiencing less though...I'm wondering if there may be a technical problem...Air Filter, Cat , tire pressure ? I keep it at 34 PSI. Any feedback ? The car runs great...I use Sunoco 93 and it purrs. 91 was not so good oddly. I love my car but it sure is gettin' expensive to run. I get the same mileage as a Vette. Less expensive and great looking...and fun to drive. I'd be thrilled to bump to 17mpg...I thought 200 miles per tank is not so great but i'd be happy at that rate now. Wait till gas goes to $5. like in Europe...Geez !

There was that thing some time back about some having bad cats on our cars. I know I had a bad one. But that should be fixed by now. I have allso seen post on here that there 8 comes to life with age. Odd but thats what a lot of people say they are experiencing. Could be your experiencing the same and thats where your extra gas is going?. I know I did after my new Engine. So did a member/my friend that would post on here some time back by the name of Tracker.

You know what, when I top off my tank my car runs great. But I get bad gas milage till 1/2 tank. Seams like it just sucks that gas up. Then I get real good gas milage after that?

Hmmmmm...............I think most people get about 50 miles per every 1/4 mark...sometimes just a wee bit better. Check it out. Reset odometer next time you fill up and don't really overfill it and see what you get. I know this is contrary to what you are saying, but I check mine a lot and it's pretty constant at 50 miles per 1/4. Plenty of threads related to gas mileage.....shouldn't turn this into another.

^ I'm with you, my gas mileage and the gauge is very linear. 1st car I've had that way I'd say. Except I almost always get 80 miles per 1/4 tank on the highway, 65-70 per 1/4 tank around town.

Damn....now you gonna make me check again! Well, I might drive just a wee bit faster than normal! Actually.......now that I think of it.........if I'm not constantly redlining I may approach 65 per 1/4 around town. I just filled up and reset odometer yesterday, so...................

Same here. I am getting about 50-55 miles per 1/4 tank, and maybe 60 per 1/4 on the highway. BTW, when my 8 was new, I was only getting approximately 14.5 mpg. Now I am getting approx. 17 mpg.
