8 w/ the top down

you guys think they'll ever make a 8 convertable ??? hot or not?

Psylence 02-19-2004 02:25 PM

Not! Degrading the structural integrity of a vehicle for vanity purposes is uncool.

guy321 02-19-2004 02:28 PM

You mean I SHOULDNT have taken out the braces behind the back seat so I could build a huge sculpture of my head in the back seat area of my car??

Only if it's facing rearward to give tailgaters the evil eye!

BRx8 02-19-2004 03:06 PM

they can't make it a convertible, they'd have to trash the suicide door concept...maybe on the new RX-7

Velocity-8 02-19-2004 03:22 PM

They could bring back t-Tops. ;)

Psylence 02-19-2004 03:26 PM

T-tops? Can they put a flaming chicken on the hood too?

ya, true.

never thought about that. forget it then, it'd be nice.

I guess you'd have to (like you said, trash the suicide doors) and make it a coupe and make the convertable? idk?

the "t-tops" wouldn't be too bad...hhmmm....good idea

I used to love my T-top back in the day.

Targa anyone?

93rdcurrent 02-19-2004 03:35 PM

I love T-tops!

MazdaManiac 02-19-2004 03:37 PM

I'm kinda partial to tube tops, but I'm a product of the 80's...:p

Psylence 02-19-2004 04:10 PM

Tube Tops > T-Tops

The 8 has a reinforced backbone structure for this purpose. I don't see issues with going with going roofless.

very true, hhmmm, either way, it'd be nice to see

I mean, it would up the competition level w/ the Z roadster, ya know?

Monique 02-19-2004 05:36 PM

Not!!! But I hear they are considering a convertible RX-7. Only a two seater though.

ehhhh

its like goin' back in time in a way, considering the 8 is takin' over the 7....right?

so its like hey lets take a 7, which is already replaced w/ the 8, remake it and make it a convertable, nasty!

make the damn 8 a convertable, plain and simple..hah

i agree about the 7. i dont think a convertible 8 would look as nice as these do. no way to have all the contours. then again, maybe they can just create a whole new design for a convertible version. just hopefully not like the sebrings. in my opinion the convertible is long & ugly. but the hard top is nice looking. i've actually owned a 99 sebring lxi. convertibles are great though. i've also owned an eclipse spyder. but i like my 8 way better 2 months later than i ever liked those, even at the beginning.

sunlightred8 02-19-2004 06:53 PM

thats awesome Monique.

you do make a pretty good point about the sebrings, the hard tops are nice and the coverts are just sickning!! idk, them guys @ mazda can do no harm in this, I mean they made the 8 a DREAM, I don't think there is no screwin' up now....idk?

its hard to tell

Monique 02-19-2004 07:33 PM

I guess we'll see :)

Baller 02-19-2004 07:51 PM

A convertible in a hardtop world!!!

Elara 02-19-2004 08:01 PM

Mazda's already announced it may be bringing out a two-seat and a convertible version of the 8..check the media threads :)

WHealy 02-19-2004 10:51 PM

Hum ...

RX8_GT 02-19-2004 11:00 PM

Should have a hitch - because there sure wouldn't be any trunk room. But shortened to a two seater hard top convertible with top stored Chevy SSR style - could be nice. John

Omicron 02-20-2004 07:52 AM

They are, Elara? Musta missed that - cool!

Regardless, there is no reason why they can't turn this car into a 'vert, as a major part of the structural stiffness is due to the center tunnel "backbone."

Megatron_98 02-20-2004 09:42 AM

Thanks for the choh whealy but it really looks alot like the eclipse from that angle. ehh I'd love to see a t-top or targa top but I'm sold anyway, so that would really just complcaite the choices of options when I go to buy mine. :) not really a bad problem.
