8 now or 8 later

Thinking about buying an 8, doing some research and ran across this site. Should I wait for next years model or buy now? I've found a dealer that has several and will discount several thousands under sticker. Any advice or comments would be very helpful.

You might want to make sure the dealer isn't marking that price up just to mark it down. Recent buyers ARE able to get the 8 for under MSRP, but usually not by several thousand.

To answer your question, I am waiting for next years model. I want to see if any other problems come up as people rack up the milage and give Mazda the opportunity to fix these problems. I never buy a new car in its first year as a rule of thumb. Plus, the prices should come down after the hype is worn off.

Depends on your situation.

My 93 Town Car Signature was going downhill fast. A lil over 150K miles on it and the air suspension went out. $1800 (had some other work done) later... I decided to make it a "Second/Winter car" and get an 8. I test drove the 350Z, S2000, some Pickups (Dodge Magnum almost won me over), some Lincolns, some Caddys, a Cooper, the Miata and 6. I even test drove a Z06 and a 50th annv Vette. Well... the 8 was my choice. I know I drove a wide range of cars, but the 8 kept calling me back. My long winded point is this...

If you can wait... then see where the prices go.

A few hundred below MSRP is a common statement being heard. A few THOUSAND??? PUT DOWN THE CRACK PIPE!!! Do a search on the Dealer Cost vs. Retail Cost spec sheet (There's no dealer willing to make a $10 profit on a car... get real)

Mazda is currently offering 0% on 2003s and select 2004s (8 excluded of course), maybe that tune will change as the year ends and the following year plods on.

Mazda (Ford) is also not accepting any discount programs (A plan, Z plan, F&F plan, etc) on the 8.... yet. I think that will change too.

Maybe by the time you're ready for that 8... something better may come along (RX-7 Renesis???) Maybe even mid year color additions (WHITE, PURPLE, yellow/black interiors!!!!)

But if your situation calls for a fairly quick purchase... and you're convinced the 8 is for you... GET IT. Be prepared for some "DRIVING EXCITEMENT!" oh wait... that's some other manufacturer's motto... ummm.... ZOOM ZOOM!!!

Regards,
Wankeler

I now have the luxury to wait a couple more years - I was originally planing on getting mine next year/early spring, but last January I was driving to work and became car #6 in an 8 car pile up ... (I still miss my 1990 Probe)

Since the RX-8 wasn't out yet, (and I've been waiting 3 years for it to come out) ... I was looking at getting either a Celica or RSX ... but I ended up with a MP5 (as a family of 4 the 4 doors come in handy) and plan to trade it in for the RX-8 ... I can wait a little longer as long as I have this forum to keep me company!

:D

I'm also hoping to get mine for around a hundred over dealer invoice ...

unless you have paperwork stating the price, don't think of quotes as much. i learned the hard way at a honda dealer 6 months ago; deal was too good to be true, and it sure was. when they brought out the paperwork, the car was for 4k more than what they were telling me all along!

Don't procrastinate. Too many things can change in your life between now & then.
