is this 8 legit?? or even possible?

Hi guys,

I have this car i want to look at this weekend...

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/cto/2605464487.html

is that a good deal having a 2004 with that low miles??? or is it too good to be true?? or I shouldn't buy that car because it might have been sitting and in the garage for too long??

Not a bad deal considering the low miles. It might be hard to find something newer that's been used that little. Assuming they've changed fluids properly and everything seems to be in good condition, I wouldn't say it's a bad deal.

Request a test drive if you are worried about it being legit or not. Make sure to always get maintenance records and a carfax report to ensure the title is clean, etc. I picked up my '04 with 33K miles for $12.9K, but car prices vary widely depending upon location.

Go and see it for yourself.

Ha!!!! the add said powerful.

I'm still debating between this one and 2006 Shinka with 28k miles for $14k. I like the keyless entry on the Shinka version.

What you guys think??

Check out both of them in person and then make the decision.

LifeAfterRx8 09-22-2011 02:12 PM

Personally, I wouldn't go for it.
I would double check the mileage first to make sure it's accurate. The gauge cluster tracks mileage in the cluster, but the true mileage is stored in the ECU. If something was wrong with his old cluster he could have replaced it. Seats can easily be purchased on eBay, so judging by how the seats look doesn't work either. It is possible to have that low of miles but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a steal because the warranty is most likely expired, it's only a touring model and for a bit more you can get a used S2 with around the same miles. I've seen 09's with like 10-20k miles going for about $17xxx- $21,000 including R3s.Those still come with a warranty and I've never heard anything bad about the new engines.

That's about $14,000 for a 2004, so chances are even if it has low miles, things are going to go wrong and the warranty is most likely gone for that car and could end up costing you a lot in the long run.

why start a new thread? https://www.rx8club.com/purchasing-financing-insurance-56/buying-my-first-rx8-223217/
And seriously man, just start reading those links I gave you. Go test drive a few, get the feel for them, and THEN make your decision! How are we to gauge the reliability of a car, based on an internet page????
I understand you're new. But, that doesn't mean you have to be lazy

Look- it's low mileage but not CRAZY low. Some people just have multiple cars, or buy a sports car for recreational/weekend use and simply don't get around to using it much. People aren't all car nuts.

Unless there was some indication of weirdness, or a lot of wear on other parts of the car, I would just take the mileage at face value. If the engine bay looks relatively clean and stuff like that, then I wouldnt go outof your way to start suspecting odometer fraud, thats just silly.

Icemastr 09-23-2011 06:42 PM

I recently bought an 06 with 6,600 miles. There are reasonable cases where the car just doesn't get driven much. Just do some due diligence. If the car is very clean, the paint has few scratches and rock chips, and the interior looks almost new then the mileage is probably accurate.

True. I have an 06 bought new and I have only 11k logged.

Id steer clear of the 04's, they had more problems than any other year 8.

The only reason for 04-05's having significantly more problems were due to the negligence of the owners and until Mazda worked out all of the ECU flashes.

The engines are exactly the same. Only difference really are the more powerful starter and the ECU flash.

st3v3nz 09-24-2011 12:10 AM

Thanks for the reply guys, but this car's warranty will expire Oct next year and after that I'm on my own. Is that something that I have to worry about? Is it hard to get the starter and ECU flash fixed??

Depends on what condition the motor is in (how it was driven/maintained) and how long you plan to keep the car.

Hard? As in doing it yourself?

ECU flash is fixed at a dealer. It's free. Download the MSP16 bulletin for details. Best to have a printed copy in hand when you visit a dealer for it.

You'd be on your own for the starter, but if you search you'll find lots of threads on DIY replacement and cost from various places.

You can contact Mazda with the VIN and find out whether any of this has already been done.

Hi guys,

will you buy a car without being able to test drive it???? this one looks like a good deal... but i have to find a set of wheels..

sjschutz 09-24-2011 11:30 AM

I wouldn't buy a car I couldn't test drive - too much liability.

Also, he would have had to hit the divider pretty damn hard to crack the wheels and such. Deal doesn't sound right to me. I'd walk away.

st3v3nz 09-25-2011 11:16 AM

i knowwww... :( but I really like that kind of color.... ssiiggghhh...

mazdaverx7 09-25-2011 08:40 PM

best thing you can do is go look at the car and drive it and better assess the car for yourself.

sjschutz 09-25-2011 10:02 PM

You just have to keep searching and you'll find the perfect '8 for you. Might take longer then you'd like but it will be worth it in the end. Just do a search to find out everything you should look for when checking out a used RX-8. If things check out, go for it.

Good luck.
