Question Buying my first rx8 (Shinka)

Hi guys, so I'm trying to find me a new car and I'm thinking rx8.
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/2592804259.html

What do you guys think?? is this car worth it? it's a 2005 with 77k black Shinka. I drove it and I love it. The condition of the car is very decent but one of my friends told me that for rx8, when you hit 120k miles, be ready to change your engine....

Also, for the gas, do we have to use premium only??

That is what I'm worrying... Please advise...

Not enough details from the seller...
The best way is bring someone owns a 8, and actually knows 8 with you to check out the car in person.

rx-8

So, do we have to put premium gas for rx-8 guys or would it just work with 87???

is it true that after 120K you have worry about your engine for most rx??

Please please advise.

some people use 87 gas. That's too big a risk, imo. Just stick with premium.
There is no magic number when the engine will fail. Some have gone over 200k miles on the original.

Instead of asking questions that have been answered thousands of times, why don't you try educating yourself on the required maintenance.
I'll start you off.

the costs vary from dealer to dealer. Most run around $150-200.
If you're serious about purchase of any of the cars, make a deal with the seller and split the cost.

When I got mine I just called Mazda over in Cerritos to see if all the recalls were done. There was one that wasn't so I took it in and they did the recall and inspection for free. They also ran a compression test for free, when "I" flooded it (completely my fault). Either way its an option.

By the way is it worth it to buy Shinka over a regular 8?? or doesn't really matter?? I just like the keyless entry for the Shinka version.

Depends on how much you want it and how much you're willing to pay for it. Honestly most of us have gone and will go through this a million times its really up to you. Same engine same car IMHO....

About the premium gas.. Like rx8soldier said, its too big of risk. And plus premium is like $2.50 more per tank than regular.
If i could've got a Shinka for about the same price of my GT i would have. The Shinka interior is amazing, imo. The black cherry color is a gorgeous looking color. And im pretty sure Shinka's have bilstein struts.
Everything you wanted to know about Shinka's...

2006 Shinka with less than 27k miles $14000

is it worth to get the lower miles and pay more???

yes, absolutely, especially since it's an 06 (came with the most recent ecu flash from factory) and is only $2500 bucks more. You can probably talk them down more on that.

Get a compression done before purchase on either.

When the difference is only $2500 YES 27K will last longer than 80K "in theory" hahaha

I don't know if this is a problem or not but the owner of the 2006 rx is a female... and she might not put more extra oil every now and then... and you all know how girls treat their cars...

will compression test tell most of this??

Wow, really? You better duck dude. The females on the board might come after you

You can always ask for service records for the vehicle.

A compression test will tell you the general health of the engine, but it can't tell you how many oil changes it's had.

hehe i'm not saying that all the females are like that... but most of my ex's were like don't give a F with their car...

but yeah I will take it to the dealer and get a compression check :D

Also, how do you tell if the engine is flooded??

Definitely pay the extra 2500 for the lower miles. And the engines got a warranty til probably sometime in 2014??

If the engine is flooded it will not start, and you will have to take it into the dealer so they can "deflood" it.

That's another thing... she said that Warranty: This just expired last year. So all needed services have been covered.

I thought all 8 comes with 100k warranty???

You should read through the New and Potential Owners thread a few times.

Yes, 8 years or 100,000 miles on the engine only. (Rotor housing, rotors, seals, etc..) It should still be in tact unless she did something to void it.

Make sure you ask her for any and all oil change receipts that she has, or ask her to bring you to the shop that has done all her oil changes so that she can get you copies of them.

Trust me, you should do this, and then get an engine compression test shortly afterwards.

BC.

Please advise.
