4000 rpms = 80 mph in my car and another RX-8 owner told me the same. As gukdoebabdoe said, this would be 70 mph @ 3500 rpms. At 5000 you should be going 100 mph !

in 6th gear, every 20mph is 1k rpm.
2k rpm = 40mph
3k rpm = 60mph
4k rpm = 80mph
5k rpm = 100mph
6k rpm = 120mph
7k rpm = 140mph
8k rpm = 160mph
9k rpm = 180mph
at least for me. i dont know about the last half personally, but its been accurate for the first half. my tires are 245/40/18.

The way I remember rpm vs mph for each gear is that at 3000 rpm the speed for 2nd through 6th is pretty close to 10 times the gear number.
That makes it easy to figure out which gear I'm in without looking at the shift lever or remembering what I just did.
