6,000 RPM at WOT... sound changes...

This reminds me of my old '93 Integra GSR - the vtec kicked in at about 4,500 rpm and the motor sounded much different.

On my 8, at 6k, the motor sounds like something changes... can't quite explain it. It doesn't sound "good" but it doesn't sound "bad" either. The thing that it reminds me of every time (as odd as it is) is a key chain sitting on one of those old electric vibrating football games (if you're under 30, there's no way you remember this) - big metal football field, little guys on metal bases, stuck the ball under the "runner's" arm, turned on the vibrator... and hopefully your guy vibrated toward the goal...

Okay, I said it was odd. But that's what it reminds me of. I probably could've just asked "What happens at 6,000 rpm?"... but what fun would that be?

At 5500rpm, your VFAD may open and at 6250rpms, your auxillary intake ports open.

VFAD= variable fresh air duct- it's basically a trap door that opens behind the bumper above 7000rpm that allows more air into the airbox. This thread is a great read to understand all the things happening with VFAD and SDAIS at the various RPM's contributing to some of the noises heard...

Yeah, I hear the noise changes once at 3000, and then again at 5000+ where the engine starts sounding like a buzzsaw and the exhaust starts screaming for dear life. What's really strange though is right when I shift at redline, I get this sudden forward surge, as if somebody had hidden some turbos in my RX-8. :D
