5W20 or 5W30?

Alright guys, I'll be topping up my oil soon, so here's the question:

My RX-8 manual says to use 5W20. I've heard of others using 5W30 oil as it's thicker. Which one is best? Also heard to stay away from synthetic oil so I'll be sticking with conventional. As for the brand, I'm thinking Castrol GTX, or is there a better brand oil to use?

5w-30
Castrol GTX.

Nothing wrong with synthetic, I simply choose to stick with conventional oil

Bigbacon 07-14-2009 06:18 PM

honestly, oil threads should be locked asap with a message to search and or just paste links to a few o fthe other threads.

fobjr101 07-14-2009 06:21 PM

Hahaha it is funny though. As soon as I read the topic I was like oh crap, this should be interesting. And you guys never disappoint. Good flaming.

04RX8man 07-14-2009 07:25 PM

what should happen like I said there shold be a certain number of threads(like oil type, warming up) about basics(stickies) that the noobs have to read before they are allowed to post THEN if they post something like this here noob we can IDK burn them at the stake! haha

CarAndDriver 07-14-2009 08:47 PM

Noobs!

CyberPitz 07-15-2009 09:43 AM

Just add em together, DUH!

10w50.

Spinning Sushi 07-15-2009 09:46 AM

You are so wrong, you're suppose to multiply the two sets of numbers then add them.

(5)(W)(20)+(5)(W)(30)
100W+150W
150W!
