Entirely possible. It was always loose, but starting sometime in September, the cover would randomly pop out and just go crazy making squeaking noises. I would push it back into position to make it stop. With a little finagling, I could get it to shut up, but it wasn't safe to mess with that thing while I was moving. I was scared that I would end up pulling something out and all my gauges would turn off.

call mnao.

beers
They said the problem starting was because the battery wasn't holding a charge anymore. So, they just replaced it. I think 62 dollars for that is fair, as I wouldn't have guessed that it was the battery causing the problem. The nut is the thing that's driving me crazy. I'm gonna call MNAO tomorrow or next week to complain. If not get my money back, at least get them to authorize my headlight lens covers to be replaced. Thanks.

The $58 was not for tightening the nut, but rather for knowing which nut to tighten.

NECROPOST!

So, I called up the stealership and they said that the service for tightening is actually covered under warranty. They're going to send me a check for 57.85+tax back. For those of you who were previously mistaken, Squeaks and Rattles are covered under warranty for 12,000 miles. Length of time has nothing to do with it. Verified by both MNAO and the dealership.

Was your battery older or less than a year old? They said since mine was only pro-rated for a year, I have to front half the cost for the part. That doesn't bother me too much. The thing that gets me about the ignition problem was that I didn't get a new starter and plugs...

I'm going to take the car in for the starter/battery/plugs and my headlight covers to the dealership I bought my car from in the summer to have all of those fixed at once. Hopefully, they're better at service than this place nearby. If all goes well, I should have everything replaced under warranty and I'll have a fresh battery on top of it.

I'd have started it in the Lounge then. It feels kinda weird being outside of there.

my 8 is an 04... when i bought it in November 05, it had 24000 miles, so i'm assuming that it was the original battery (more than a year old). i would consider asking about getting the money back for it.

My battery was well over a year old (2) and they replaced that, the starter and the plugs for free a month ago.

The battery replacement should have been covered. Get your money back and find another dealership.

So, the service guy basically blows me off about the TSB and says that he's going to look into that as well. I'm thinking of filing a complaint with them, I got a letter from MNAO about this service report card thing for this dealership. I could just turn in all bad ratings and reviews. I don't know what that would really accomplish though... =T

I think, regardless, I'll have to find a better service department.

Well, the dealership I go to is EXTREMELY concerned about getting top grades on the post-work surveys. So, let the service manager know that you are about to fill out the form and that it will not be a good evaluation. If they don't turn around, give them the grades they deserve. Or better yet, call the manager of the dealership instead and tell him/her the same thing.

I'll hang onto the report card until they call me back about the nut charge. Thanks for the advice.

I'd like to wait and see what they do first and then resort to underhand stuff later. I'll give them the chance to fix their own stuff first. If it doesn't work, then I'll take action.

That's interesting, and I'm happy for you, but page 4 of my 2004 warranty booklet clearly states that the service adjustment warranty is 12 months or 12,000 miles whichever comes first. Just goes to show that kicking up your heels can get you something sometimes.

Back when I was younger, I'd spend far more than that to get a nut.
