Service Bulletins are optional based on whether you actually have the problem or not. Recalls should not be ignored.

I have not gotten the 420F recall done.

I am out of warranty and my 8 runs fine. That made me very leery about taking a car with no issues to the dealership. I also have been using Pre-Mix for the last 22,000 miles so rotor lubrication isn’t a concern of mine.
I sent a letter to Mazda USA with some simple questions to answer before I would take the car in for 4206F work. After ‘ losing” the first letter they sent me back a form letter that didn’t even mention my concerns. Those questions were.

1, The new flash that goes along with this recall makes the engine take longer to start. I Still have the original 5/2003 starter in my 8. Would you upgrade my starter to the faster spinning one?
2, my other question was what would happen if my 8 ran worse (which happened to some) after the re-flash. Since I am out of warranty would the dealer charge me to diagnose a poor running 8? They wouldn’t tell me how long they would stand behind the work.

I wanted my answers in writing from Mazda because you can never trust what the dealership says. Mazda never did that so I never took my 8 in. I have 92,000 miles on it now, If something was wrong It would have happened by now. Based on how I maintain my 8 and how it runs I see no reason to get this done since I have no plans on selling it.

Expo: unfortunately that wouldn't work out here in CA. If you don't get a recall performed, you can't register your car.
