Unhappy 31 Vehicles Recovered from Canal - Including an RX8!

Check out this article. It states that 31 vehicles were recovered from a canal in Ft. Lauderdale. The pics on the right clearly show someone dumped their Silver Rx8.

I know the mpg's aren't great but come on, there are other ways out!!

Unhappy 31 Cars recoverd in South FL canal

A silver RX8 is one of them, the curse continues....lol but SAD SAD news...

31 vehicles recovered from West Broward Canal

Sun-Sentinel.com
Posted January 17 2007, 6:03 PM EST

The Broward Sheriff's Office working with agents from the National Insurance Crime Bureau recovered 31 vehicles Wednesday from a canal in western Broward County.

Here is what authorities said about the recovery of the vehicles along Griffin Road between U.S. 27 and Bonaventure Boulevard:

Of the 31 vehicles, BSO has confirmed that 27 of them had been reported stolen. The remaining four are in the process of being traced. Fourteen of the 27 stolen cars were found with the keys in the ignition. None of the recovered vehicles have thus far been found to be connected with any other crimes.

Among the vehicles recovered were a 1964 Ford Thunderbird, a 1968 Corvette Stingray, a 1977 Triumph, a 1977 Cadillac along with several newer model cars, trucks and SUV's.

The Broward Sheriff's Office is working closely with the National Insurance Crime Bureau to determine how many of the recovered cars may have been dumped as part of a scheme to defraud an insurance company. Many of the cars recovered from canals generally turn out to be abandoned by owners who report them stolen to avoid future car payments.

The operation is part of BSO's on-going efforts to recover vehicles from county canals.

I mean, who tosses a Corvette Stingray and RX8 into a canal? OH....the humanity!!!!

That just what they want you to think. Look at any insurance companies profits for the last few years and then tell me fraud is reason your premiums go up.

Why would you dump your car to avoid payments? Even if you are upside down they will only give you fair market value and you will still owe that money. And gap coverage doesn't apply to a stolen vehicle in all cases and even if it does they give ther own fair market value and will not always pay the whole difference if you are upside down. People need to actually read there policies.

That 8 just got pulled out of a canal and has less condesation in its taillights than mine which is parked on dry land. It just started at around 35k miles. Getting it fixed next oil change.

It also seems to have at least some of the oem appearance package and also a spare tire in the trunk. oooooh!

Nice area, I stayed at Vacation Village @ Weston for a week, twice. Actually, I own a 2BR lockoff week 52 there.

All from the same canal???
There has got to be this one little rotten dude that you give your keys to and he promises to lose the car for you - the only other explaination is this car rally that went really really bad!

True, they do have record profits. However, it's crap like this that allows them to justify premium increases, and delays payment of your claim should your car be stolen b/c the have to "investigate" it.

I have a customer (young girl) who had her CTS stolen in November, and the insurance company is still investigating. This kind of fraud effects us all.

Do you believe it was really stolen? I'd stop searching for the car after a month or 2. By then, it's either down a canal or just stripped apart.

Well, I guess the owner isn't a member here. If he/she was, he/she would be on here telling us how the cops just found it, and blah, blah-blah, blah-blah-blah...

Now, why would you shove them in a river, where eventually someone will find the car? It's not as if the evidence will simply disappear...
