3 rotor rx8 rear engine on track today
Boy I wish I had a camera with me. The car will be revealed at the Detroit auto show and it was soooo sick. From what I understand, the tub came from the 3 rotor courage that was contested in 2006 lemans. They gutted it and created a body that resembled the sickest rx8 concept car ever. The P2 drivers took turns taking media people around Laguna Seca all day. I am sure pics will be available on the web soon.

sorry
Yah I know I am sorry. But I know for a fact that there will be photos by tomorrow. Here is my best description of the car.
Not quite a race car:
The styling was way to "artsy" to be effective. Kinda like alien meets Rx8. All carbon fiber bodywork with gullwing doors. It would not be legal in any class except maybe Japanese grand touring car. Other than that it was a full blown racecar underneath. Slick tires, Carbon brakes, Full underwing and a screaming 3 rotor puting out over 500hp and 120 decibels.
Noway a street car:
It looked like a Mazda version of a supercar like the Bugati or Ferrari Enzo but know way in the world could it run on the street.
Anyway, I like the concept. Mazda had the ***** and money to come up with something very exciting that can actually go on track and not just sit in an autoshow to look pretty. This does both and fits 2.
I think I can come up with some photos soon...maybe by monday.

If you think I am bs ing....talk to anyone you know that lives around Laguna Seca. There were a couple hundred people there today. The tub came from the courage that was totaled at limerock in 06. After that they bought the new car and slapped in the AER 4cyl 2 liter to contest the 07 series.

It would be cool if they fit the Taiki bodywork onto the Courage chassis.
Heres a link to the retired car

The car definately copied this concept. The doors, mirrors and front end Just add a huge rear wing and put it on top of a full race car carbon chassis and a glowing red rotor shaped muffler coming out the middle of the back end.

Nope, Just the standard old 20 in this bad boy. You would still be impressed by the noise and chaos of that engine though. Next time I see it on track I'll upload some sound at least. A three rotor unleashed is quite disturbing......come to the track sometime. You'lll end up without hearing...like me.

The courage is still in its original shape as for Dec. 06....

I wonder where the chassis came from for the concept, the 20B could be a spare from the team.

Wild concepts revealed at Tokyo Show by Holly Reich, Motor matters
Some ppl don't take concepts seriously, I do.
Enviromental forces like wind and water, and even sand dunes inspire the Mazda Taiki
The concept theme is "flow"
The Taiki ( translated as atmosphere in Japanese) is a two seat sports car with the next generation Mazda rotary engine, a drag coefficient of .25, Ozone silver paint that glow from within and doors that open like a vampires cape.
Sitting on 22 inch tires, this otherworldy design was inspired by elements as disparate as a raked Japanese garden to the legend of hagoromo, where a celestial maiden flies with the use of her cascading robes.
The interior, motivated by the visual cues of colorful carp streamers, has a white lounge chair for the passenger and a black seat for he driver. Why black?
It is thought to help concentration. A transparent roof brings tin the light and all of the switches are integrated into the steering wheel.
