2nd Times the charm

Hey Fellas,

I'm thinking about taking the plunge for the second time.
Look at the sig for the stats on the first.

The car was great until it started backfireing and reduced the CATs o2 readings and they wanted to charge me 1200 dollars to replace my cat.
Not sure if it was the mmo i used. but it only had 24K after 5 years.

I hate it when something happens when the car is basically just broken in and it just went out of warranty. That was 3 years ago.

I miss the ride and the engine smoothness.

Is the r3 worth the $ new or used?
Or is the GT the better buy without the suspension xtras?

What Say Ye?

Bill

And why wasn't your catalytic converter replaced under the emissions warranty?

BC.

I'm on my 2nd one. There's no question in my mind, go with the R3. The handling is a huge improvement. I didn't like the soft rear suspension in my '04 GT, which is one of the reasons I got rid of it. They did a fantastic job on addressing that problem w/ the R3. That's just my opinion, though.

FYI, I've yet to meet a ride to rough for my taste.

They got out of it by saying that it was still within tolerance.

At first they said it had to be replaced and I had to pay for it.

Sometimes I hate buying new cars.

But it was the worst thing. It was the daily driver and I was cruising to work and it just cut off. then I coasted to a stop and when it restarted it sounded like a bad briggs and stratton. It missfired all the way to the dealer.
It was a sick feeling.

Why did you get rid of it in the first place? If it was just the cat, there are replacements that are cheaper you could get, and still remain emissions compliant.

You used Marvel Mystery oil in your car.

That was the problem.

Two of our local guys (aside from RX22) have R3's and owned RX-8's prior and both of them love the R3. I can't say that I love the R3 more than mine but mine is not stock. If you are more comfort oriented then get the GT, if you are performance oriented and don't mine not having a moonroof, auto wipers, DVD nav, etc. get the R3.

Locally we have a 2010 GT as well and personally I would take the GT. The R3 has some nice tweaks but nothing a good set of shocks and springs for under $1,000.00 couldn't make up for. Plus you get more color options. The R3 is fine for an out of the box weekend track car but if you get the mod bug you will likely grow old of it in it's stock form anyway. But if you just want to buy it and leave it then it is a superb ride.

Oh, and if you are on the heavy side you won't like the Recaro seats in the R3.

Agreed, but I'm 6'5"/240 and the Recaros don't bother me.

Both the other local guys with R3's are pretty think but tall guys. I like them just fine but another local guy (not here, never comes around) has a blue R3 and he is pretty chunky (so is his wife) and the bolsters of his Recaros are toast and tearing already. It's just something I have heard people complain about and they have not been able to get it covered under warranty.

i've gotten the r3 and for stock components its a pretty damn smooth ride with the tight sports tuned suspension. plus nothing beats r3 rims. those are hard to find standalone
