2nd engine blown in 6 months

Pretty disappointed. 2nd Engine Blown. about 16k miles on the new engine - all highway mileage because of work. Just had my "new" motor installed by mazda in Oct. I was told originally it was a crate motor and not a "reman". I'm pretty **** about oil changes (10w-30), premixing, even the break in period was done via Racing Beats recommendation. Well I'm hoping all will go well. The guys at Puente Hills Mazda have been awesome and helped me thoroughly in the past.

Let's hope you get an engine from Sleepy-Z. That one will do you well

Sorry about your run in with bad luck. There are always those spoiled apples...I would think of it as a brand new engine for free! People seemed to get so pissed about it, but I don't think I'd mind..*Besides the downtime of not driving it....and as long as I stayed away from Galpin so my car doesn't explode into flames.*

Or take up shifting.

Just kidding, sounds like you've had a run of bad luck. Hey, at least you get another brand new one*.

This is interesting news as far as premixing goes. I can't recall reading of another engine that's blown this quickly that was premix'd since day 1.

What premix did you use and how much? How often did you redline? What symptoms did you experience?

I would say premix had nothing to do with his engine failing. More than likely an internal issue that finally showed up.

Sorry to hear. That's a PITA, no doubt.

Threads like this just scare the crap out of me... I'm at 60k, I premix, change oil about ever 5k miles.... 5w30... mostly highway... basically, when people that take better car of their engine than I do blow their engines it scares me.

That, and I think the jerk dealership I went to voided my warranty when I had them run diagnostic tests on it a few months ago, but I never had them work on it.

Sucks dude, the engine replacement is no fun when you are given a taurus to drive as a rental.

Actually, I meant the opposite. If anything I would have thought the premix would've helped prevent any problems. Maybe it did and would've blown sooner.

Sorry to hear.
Not to be noisey but mind if I ask what year?
2009's are new motors but everything else is reman. If its a MT motor then it was pretty much brand new if it was one of our first 100 but that was around sept/aug. when they shipped out, they were brand new 6spd AT's that had the rear housings swapped and a MT flywheel added to use as MT motors. Also what was wrong exactly, or what happend to the motor?

Judging from his join date.... likely an 04. Then again, my join date would mean that too. However I have an 06. Was a haterz until I saw the light. Was blind but now I see.... was lost in the piston world but now am found in the embrace of the suicide doors.

Exactly what i was thinking, lol. Sux that you are one of the unfortunate few that just has some shitty luck with the rotary. But hey, this may be a blessing in disguise, while other 8's start blowing engines past the warranty period, there you are with a fresh, low mileage engine with many more years on her (thats if, of course, THIS engine doesnt blow early)

Bummer. I just got my car from a used car lot took it to the dealer to check the vin number to find out that its on its second motor. I doubt the previous owner used premix.

In a sick sense..I kind of hope my engine blows. I don't know how the previous owner treated it and would like a new one before my warranty goes up.

But I wouldnt mind if it lives to be 200k miles old even though it only has 35k on it right now and is an 04'

Chris, sorry to hear about your engine, that sucks. Sleepy-z works at the new Mazda facility that is now remanufacturing engines. If you could give him the engine's # that might be very interesting for him to track things down. Even 'though he doesn't own an 8 he seems to be a great guy anyway.
