2406 recall question/concern
So I have read through the posted 4206F recall, especially the dealers procedure. I have had the stalling issue in the past and have it documented through the dealership in writing.
I went to the dealership the other day and was talking to the service manager and mentioned to him that it sounds as if I may need a new engine since in the Mazda NA procedure it states that any customer that has a past record of the issue shall have the engine replaced. Well the service manager told me that is not true. He will run a few test and feels that my engine should be fine.
My question/concern is this... I have had the power/stalling issue a few times (6 times to be exact). I have it documented through the dealer. He is telling me that I should be fine and he will run a few test. While the recall CLEARLY states that the engine WILL be replaced if there are any past complaints of engine stalls, he is telling me otherwise. Obviously there is a reason that Mazda NA is telling the dealerships to replace them, but he is saying that it probably won't.
I called other dealerships, and they told me to take it to the dealership that has the records. What should I do? Take it to the dealership that is telling me the engine will be fine and not following the recall procedure or take it to another dealership to look at?
Does anyone have a number to Mazda NA where I can talk to someone there about this before I take it in?
Argh.

*I haven't read throught the whole recall paperwork yet* b/c it'll be another few days b4 I get mine, but I think they MUST test your car if you've had any of the power loss complaints. The test results then MUST be reported (I believe directly downloaded) to Mazda, and they decide - NOT your dealer. So while your dealer sounds ill-informed at best, the decision is not theirs to make.
Sounds like the other dealerships want nothing to do with your particular mulligan.
If the paperwork says the engine will automatically be replaced then you should definitely contact MNAO. I don't have the #'s you need, but they are buried in this thread somewhere. Best I can do . . . sorry.

Yea, Page 7 steps:
Using info from Service Writer, technician determines procedure to perform for drivability concerns.
Is there previous warranty history or repair orders with severe lack of power/low idle complaints? if answer yes, then
has the engine been replaced on a previous repair? If no, then Replace engine.
Pretty cut & dry to me.
But, you won't get that in your recall letter. This is in the attachments to the letter sent to the dealer. You may want to print it from this site & take it in to your dealer.
Another thing in the letter to your dealer is a wash & top off your tank. Take it in empty & make sure they do this. They get paid to do it whether or not your reap the benefit, so make sure you do.
